All I can get

Laine is a UFA this summer.
Also, the Habs have lots of quality picks.

Great opportunity for him to get top offensive PP and line time to rebuild his value before the offseason. I'm not too worried about his NTC.

If this trade gets done, either one of the two will be true:
- Flames dropped price if Zharovsky is not included.
- Habs came up to meet the price if Zharovsky is included.

Laine does still have a 10 team - no trade list. I wonder if the Flames are on that list.

Likely doesn’t matter if he remains on IR the rest of the year and the contract is up in a couple months

Retention takes them out of trades if they have the slots open or not... Frickin use them

If he's IR he doesn't even have to come here, and he's a pending UFA. I doubt it's an issue.

I would love Laine to be part of it, and sign a 'show me' extension with the Flames so they can assess him next year/either extend again or trade.
The Monahan Redemption.

If Laine's traded I doubt he even plays a game for us.

If you told me 6 years ago that we’d have Huberdeau and Laine and that Matthew Tkachuk won 2 cups I would have been so jacked.

What happened to Laine anyways? Is his body just broken? Doesn't care? He used to be a pretty outstanding goalscorer and he's still only 27.
Is there any chance at reclamation?

If there is no retention, I can’t imagine the return will be very much. My guess will be conditional 2nd (becomes a 1st if they make the conference final) + Wifi + Laine + Evans for Kadri + Pachal

Anyone have updates on Laine?
Latest post on Rotowire is from 2 months ago.

Practicing in non-contact jersey
January 10, 2026
Laine (abdomen) practiced Saturday in a non-contact jersey, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Laine hasn't played since Oct. 16 and underwent core muscle surgery in late October. He received a recovery timetable of 3-4 months, which could put him on track to return as early as late January. However, it's still unclear when he will be available to play. Laine has one assist in five games this season.

Possible to get Montreal's 2026 1st? They look like a team that could get eliminated from the playoffs quickly.

Montreal would be a great situation for Kadri.

I don’t see any potential in Laine at this point. He is what he is 11 years into his career. I don’t know what his contract is but if it’s lengthy Montreal should pony up an extra 1st just like we did for taking on our Monahan contract.

His best chance at reclamation was in MTL
-2nd line minutes
-top PP time
-supportive coach and mgmt
-young team looking for leadership
At this point he is what he is; a PP specialist who gets injured a lot
