Zero chance Chicago takes on Mangi for next year and use up their last retention spot for a 3rd. I assume they retain as Edmonton doesn't have the cap, they are basically at zero before the trade, so still more than $2M short without retention.

The exact terms of the deal being discussed are still unclear, and perhaps not even settled at this time. It could cost the Oilers a notable asset to add Dickinson, as The Athletic’s Scott Powers reported earlier today that the Blackhawks “don’t see a point” in trading Dickinson for a marginal return.

Wow I mean the other player might be very good. But as it stands a 1st for Dickinson is pretty incredible. I get that they get 1.7 or so in cap space too but I mean this is a 4th liner.

And if I understand correctly they now have no protection on their 2026 1st that went to San jose or option to roll back a year so if they miss the playoffs which isnt a massive longshot anymore they may have just given up protection on a lottery pick. Woof
