Can people stop using these Indian content farms as legitimate sources? Times of India, Hindustan Times, Sunday Guardian, etc. all have extremely low reporting standards and just pump out articles based on things as loose as a facebook or reddit post.

I’m not commenting on what is or isn’t true at this point in terms of who the shooter was, but these articles are using pictures of distinctly different people and pretending they are the same person. That’s going to ruin the life of whoever’s picture is not the actual shooter.

My friend taught in Tumbler Ridge in the 90s before it became a ghost town. Very remote community.

Tumbler Ridge, BC, is not a ghost town itself but is a 1980s-era town that experienced a "ghost town" scenario when its main employer, the Quintette coal mine, closed in 2000. Sounds like some Xitter "reporter" posted the wrong person, then "corrected" it, then tried to recall all the wrong ones by contacting whoever was re-xitting it. Might explain the multiple pictures, and also why if you are gonna "break news" you make sure you have it right. I'm sure Xitter reporters will review their standards.

The RCMP really need to come out with something soon at this point - even if it is a very basic update. Forcing people to sit on this for what is looking like may be more than 24hours is not right. The country and town of Tumbler Ridge need to make some sort of sense of this tragedy. Equally important, the rumor mill that is now churning needs to be shut down by some tangible statements and facts from authorities.
