Silver lining is maybe Backlund & Coleman can get Zary going again.

Real shame for the player. He was looking like a solid everyday NHLer.

I’m sure the Flames are taking good care of him, but that has to take a major toll on your mental state. I think he’ll overcome this early career adversity.

Nothing I said was inaccurate.
What was the long term last year? I know he started up here and got an injury after 5 games before being sent down, but he played 52 games and 2 playoff games last year in the AHL. That doesn't see like a long term injury to me.

Just looked and his last game in the NHL was Oct 30, his first game in the AHL was on Nov 5th. There was a 2 week period between Oct 15 and Oct 30th that he didn't get in. Hardly long term.

Really, really unfortunate. This is a big setback for him. Unfortunate incident but his body may not be up for the rigors of NHL hockey. It’s why the Flames badly need to bottom out for a few seasons. The prospect base is improved but most of these players we’ve been excited about the past few seasons aren’t likely going to be major contributors at the NHL level.

Brutal news.

As a side note, I find it ridiculous that teams don't disclose major injuries like this, especially when they're season ending.

Yeah. Never a good look to mimic the CFL with the secrecy shenanigans.

Dang, but silver lining is hopefully something surgical can also be well rehabilitated. Plus, being upper body and not a concussion means he can still keep lower body training hopefully.

Horrible news.

Some players get hurt more often than others, and it doesn't always relate to a specific chronic condition. I don't really know what to make of it, other than it obviously hurts his development and his next contract too. But he's too young to be written off as injury prone.

He had apparently really bulked up so even more disappointing.

Honzek looked like he could be a solid NHLer but not a scorer one would hope for a lottery pick

With another injury, his chance is even lower now

sounds like he considered rehab rather than surgery in order to make the Slovak Olympic team

Who are you talking about?

Zary's slide?

Going by our prospect poll and say 2022 (picked it arbitrarily)

1. Wolf, Dustin CORE
2. Pelletier, Jakob Nope
3. Coronato, Matthew Maybe core maybe secondary
4. Zary, Connor Secondary
5. Ruzicka, Adam 43.1% Nope

Seems like the burn rate is somewhat average.

2023 and forward are too up in the air.

And I think Honzek will be fine, and an importance third line piece going forward. He showed too much hockey sense / awareness not to be an NHLer going forward.

That might actually be a good path for him (assuming the wranglers get that far).

Ahhh ok I stand corrected.

Only 3 out of the last 4 seasons where he sustained long term injury and the one year where he was only out for a couple weeks lol
