Zary actually seems to drag down Backlund but at his best with Kadri historically, put him there.

Over the last 3 seasons:

Zary + Backlund: 48.8% xGF
Zary + Kadri: 51.3% xGF

Sharangovich + Kadri : 46.6% xGF
Sharangovich + Backlund: 56.1% xGF

Still feels like they have those guys on the wrong lines IMO.
Backlund helps lots of guys but not usually guys who cary the puck a lot.

This likely to be Morton’s only game for the time being. Hope he really shows.

It’s a good day for Flames hockey! Hoping for 2 massive Mission McKenna points and that we get an exciting night of Bedard exploits.

A big hello to my friends here at CP. I have been pleased with my guys' play, lately. Soderblom at 2-2-1 has been an adequate backup, and our Defense has shown some improvement. 'Hawk PP has been torrid lately, your guys have to stay out of the box. Two of our key forwards are on IR, Dickinson and our Captain Foligno. These 2 were more important on the PK, than at even strength, but, the youngsters like C. Dach will get the chance to step up.

Speaking of our PK...watch out for Mikheyev leaking out, he has a surprising first step and has had a few SH breakaways.

Bedard has been on a point streak, and Teravainien/Nazar/Donato have been the hottest ES line in recent play, although there has been some balance in other line production.

I would highlight rookie D-Man Artyom Levshunov (#55) in tonight's game. His 2025 stats 0-10-10 (+2) with 5A on the PP. I expect the 'Hawks will try to set up his 1st NHL goal tonight, forcing some offense through him, probably by having him activate on a PP chance.

I'll be checking in from time to time today, and see you all the GT.

Hoping for a good and injury free game for both squads...Best of luck to all!

Late to the party here, but I'll chime in:

PBP: I like John Abbott. No, he isn't as good as Ball, and I do miss Ball. However, Abbott has been perfectly fine. What I think has been hard on him is the fact that he hasn't had a regular color guy. I think this will help him out, especially considering that he is relatively new - at least to this level of announcing. Maybe I still have PTSD from the Kerr days? Hate taking a shot at him since he seemed like a really good guy, but PBP was not his thing. I think Abbott is perfectly fine, and is likely to improve as time goes by.

I had a bit of extra time today so I listened to the Noodles section of Barn Burner. I have to say I agree with Noodles' assessment of Huska - he says this coaching staff has the Flames prepared, and that they are not running around and getting blown out regularly. That's true. Most teams in last place play an ugly game where they are just getting blown out, and even if they do manage to keep it close on the scoreboard, are getting vastly out-played. That's not happening in Calgary. The losses suck, and the inability to score is frustrating, but they aren't looking bad while losing. That's so underrated right now.

As for the game tonight:

Keys to the game for me:
1) Make sure that the Flames do enough to keep Bedard from reclaiming top spot in the scoring race! (Yes he is 7 points back.. so I am half-kidding here).
2) As Foss posted - better stay out of the box
3) Meh.. who am I kidding? Just make it entertaining!

Will be great to see Morton in the lineup. I barely remember his appearance last season, but I hope he looks better. Will be interesting to see how that line looks different with him centering it. Lots of pressure on him right now considering that the Flames just picked up direct competition for him on waivers today, so I imagine he feels like he has to essentially run through a brick wall tonight. Hope he has a great game.

I wish teams would just say when it's a concussion. I hate that there is reluctance to do so. I get why. But I dislike it.
