Guy has gotten death threats in Edmonton he probably wouldn't mind leaving...they aren't going to get better for 2.6M

If Stuey ever leaves Edmonton his numbers will get better.

He'd be a delightful back-up to Wolf, and a boone to Supreme Men's Wear's top line. Make it happen Connie.

I don't think he is nearly as bad as Oilers fans say he is. If he was backup to Wolf, I think he would easily be able to play 25-30 games and have decent stats.

He's actually terrible, worse than Vladar imo. Worst lateral movement in the league too. Would be a helluva a contrast to go from the best in the league at coming across the crease to the worst every 4th game. The puck handling contrast would be a nightmare for the d as well.

Hope he stays in edmonton for 10 more years.

He would do way better on a team with some defensive structure. Cooley for Skinner (50% retained). Make it happen, Connie!

Haven't we said this about other goalies too until they get out of Edmonton? Dubnyk and Talbot come to mind.i don't Skinner is great and his lateral movement is terrible. But he's also 26. I think he's numbers would improve elsewhere.

The Oilers don't spend much time in the d zone these days. He would have to be on a team that allows almost no cross crease chances to succeed.

Edit: Talbot played some of the best hockey of his career in Edmonton. Dubnyk was the exception.

Agreed. He usually does

Really he only had one issue last night, it was a miscommunication between him and Bouchard. Like he said, it is probably the easiest fix he’s going to make all year. Move the puck quickly to the corner

In his defence, I suspect he tried to make eye contact with Bouchard on the play and there may have been uncertainty if they actually did

Tough to blame him on that

As I'm sure others in the analytics community have noticed, the main problem with Stuart Skinner is the NG Factor. Through the roof!

Has he looked into the Stink-Eye as a possible deterrent? Other Oilers goalies have used it.

IIRC as well, Dubnyk actually played quite good on some piss-poor Oilers teams, up until his last season there when he was as bad as the rest of them, causing them to blame him and ship him off to Nashville, where it took a few seasons before he found his footing again in Minnesota.

Skinner's bad and not as good as Dubnyk, but I also think he's shown enough flashes while in Edmonton that if he left and went to a half-decent defensive team, he'd improve enough to be a good backup goalie or decent 1A/1B goalie.

There was no good reason for Bouchard to skate right in front of Skinner if he wasn't going to take the puck and skate it away. As it was, he partially screened his own goalie, left the puck behind, and Skinner had just enough time to think, ‘What the—’, before Coleman made that cute billiards shot through the 5-hole.

Skinner was guilty of hesitating a split second in a situation he didn't expect. Bouchard was guilty of being a total bonehead.

Yeah, I definitely put more blame on Bouchard for that. I am not a big believer in Skinner, he has some of the worst lateral movement of any starting goalie in the league and makes routine things look awkward all the time, but Bouchard looked like he was going to take the puck and then just left it.

I'm surprised they haven't applied their contract structure they use on skaters for goaltending. If they just paid him more he'd be a better player! Give him an 8x8 stat and watch that save percentage rise!
