Why is this not the focus of this thread? He's been a pretty exciting revelation this training camp... if Huberdeau's out, Gridin might get a really big opportunity and we could see another young guy do some serious damage.

Was just going to say this...over the years there have been many waiver over reactions. All these guys turned out to be meh at best...waived again, bounced around.

Thank you.

Would be interested to know what management is planning. I'm probably not alone in thinking Prosvetov generally looked better than Cooley.

I wonder then if they are moving him to the Wranglers to work full time on some issues, along with a lot of game action? Whoever is in the NHL is going to ride a lot of pine anyways. The corollary here is that sticking with the team isn't necessarily a vote of confidence for Cooley, who might just be a placeholder until Craig picks up a veteran.

Kirkland can actually hit and defend which you need in the bottom 6. Kerins has decent offence but not top 6 NHL good.
Would like to give the young guys like Kerins a shot. If he struggles after a few games then send him down.

We have so many usless players taking up roster spots. I just don't know how you can't fit him in, considering how well he played most of the preseason.

and he is 19 and actually a high ceiling top end prospect with all due respect to the older guys

Goalies: Matt Murray or Philip Grubauer will be available in a day or two.

Better or worse....

The precedent that younger players could steal a job from a vets has been a bit of a farce this camp. More so than previous years anyway.

I don't like the way we structured our rosters so that vets were only playing essentially the first night and last night. Vets looked waaay behind it last night.

Vets didn't have to compete with younger players and earn anything. Vets sat and waited for cuts, then got trudged out for one of the most uninspiring efforts I've ever seen in a preseason game. Vets were given nothing to lose and apparently had nothing to prove either. Doesn't feel like there was any internal competition there.

Damn good chance Kerins gets claimed.

We've got too many players. Gridin is ready. If there weren't so many middle/bottom 6 forwards on this roster it would have been a no brainer to keep him up.

Edit: I'm just going to go ahead and say it, Zayne doesn't look ready to me. I know he's too good for the OHL, but I'm not convinced he's ready for the NHL yet either.

two games with better rosters he was lost...I told you last night I think you had rose colored glasses with this player. Like how do you have ZERO hits in the make or brake game when you are trying to make an NHL bottom 6.

Pospisil was out there pissing guys off left and right

Classic Flames.
Classic Flames with two 19 year olds still on the roster? You sure?

I would not expect Gridin to stay in the lineup, minus an actual injury to say Huberdeau that could take time.

I was surprised the Canucks signed him. Won't be surprised if he gets claimed. Worth a flyer if you're looking for a LHS wing.

Who does he bump out in the top six? He isn’t an effective bottom six player

Maybe I am crazy but wasn’t Scott Perunovich some hotshot offensive dman that some folks wanted the Flames to target in a trade a few years ago?

I think Prosvetov needs to play lot so he is sent to Wranglers. Cooley may play 1 game in October if the team has 0.5 result. If the team has a bad start I can see Wolf plays all games.

I wouldn't have waived either skater. Bean, kirkland and Miromanov are all worse and have 0 upside

This is the reality of the NHL when you have multi-million dollar commitments that are guaranteed so I’m a bit perplexed why you’re surprised.

This is what happens every year- no matter what and no matter which team.

Side note, we should claim Schwindt again off Vegas just to f with them haha
