The only surprise is that they waited this long.

First, his coaching in the playoffs, and his handling of Oettinger, guaranteed that he was getting canned. But then his comments, post series, were almost farcical, like he was daring them to fire him. There was absolutely no doubt that he was done in Dallas.

My understanding is that Olli Jokinen was forced into retirement by the equipment manufacturers. It was just becoming too expensive to make a helmet for that massive dome.

That's because he has such a big brain, which is good for coaching.

It’s going to have to be a “players coach” except who would that be?

I feel that the stars management thought that deBoer had nothing left to give the organization from an outcome in the WCF perspective. Maybe they are right. Did they ever really threaten the greasepigs?

I'll predict after the Oilers lose they'll fire Knob and hire DeBoer.

If they don't win he's the easiest scapegoat.

Coaching carousel can continue.

The fans and media would just blame Skinner again like they always do.

A 3rd period collapse by Colorado and they imploded last year after cocsinr gate.

They are lucky to get to the WCF. The Mitch Marner of teams. Good regular season and a ghost in the playoffs.

Slight move off track …

Marner?

Auston Matthews is more of a problem when the level of competition is elevated

This year he was the main culprit in the 4 nations loss, underperformed Tavares after getting the C they stripped from him, and did nothing in the playoffs

No extra gear

Marner has more grit and heart imo

Anyways Deboer torpedoed his own job with the handling of Oettinger who is signed for what, 8 years ?

Exactly this is the only reason he was fired not his top 3 in the league record the last 3 seasons lol. Dallas likely does worse next season, then what? I do agree they had no choice though...dumb pull, dumb leaving him out, and dumb of moumental proportions move throwing him under the bus after the game.

Top 3 regular season, however under playoff pressure, hit a ceiling, and his behaviour is symbolic of basically being out of ideas

If their record is worse next season it’s not the end of the world, as long as they make the playoffs. They could paint it as a step back with their eye on two steps forward

Pulling Ottengier was stupid and throwing him under the bus like that postgame was probably even stupider. With that being said, he's not gonna be unemployed for long

Only if it comes out that DeBoer was a child molester and/or was banging Jake Oettinger’s wife.

Manny Malhotra is the betting odds favourite to get the job with Hakstol close behind.

Love seeing Canuck fans freak out.

I doubt they've actually talked to Malhotra yet, since Abbotsford is currently leading their semi-finals series with Texas.

It’s been a day doubt they have talked to anyone. It’s just betting odds
