Remember when Lou had us playing 8x vs each team in division. We played the Wild 8 times a year while missing 1 eastern division.
I remember, that was some low event hockey. Playing EDM and VAN 8 times was fun though.

Replay assistant works great with the NFL, there's really no delay and they get the calls right. Would like to see the NHL try it.

It's like the NHL is too vain to use technology to improve officiating. Either that, or they are happy to make it so officials can control games and affect the outcomes. Tech would just get in the way in that case.

Please insert a chip that is detectable when it crosses the goal line between the posts. No more "did it really cross the line? This angle yes, that angle no. This isn't 2004 any longer. Having that in 2004 could have potentially rewritten part of the Cup's history. Not having it now is just incompetence.

Well over a decade ago, a guy in his garage invented a net with sensors that would light up like a Christmas tree when the puck crossed the goal line. (Literally. His prototype used a string of Christmas lights.) I believe it was designed to work with the same sensors they put in the puck for that abysmal FoxTrax glowing-puck novelty back in the day.

You are quite right, there is absolutely no excuse for not doing this. The players are chipped, the pucks are chipped, everything on the ice is being followed in pinpoint detail, and for crying out loud, the machines certainly know where the net is.

I personally don't care for expanding the playoff format. I get why it might make financial sense, but adding more bubble teams to the post season isn't exciting.
They could add teams from the opposite conference who are XX points better then the other conferences teams. I've seen several seasons where a team in one that missed the playoffs would lead the other conference.

I use to argue for the over and back rule but now I’m not so sure. Guess I’d like to see how it looks for a while.

Abandon the shoutout and either play 3 on 3 until a goal or call it a tie after 10 minutes.

In both 2010 and 2023 the team that represented the Eastern Conference in the Stanley Cup Final had fewer points in the regular season than the Flames, who missed the playoffs.
