Yeah, I said something similar about Backlund when someone said something like “what does he even do to be captain”.

He lines up against the elite players every game for 20+ minutes and more often than not plays them to a standstill. And then gets trashed when a 100+ point player happens to score a goal against him.

On this team, there are plenty of opportunities for Andersson to step up and take charge as a top dman. Unfortunately, he did that for only about the first 10 games

He still has some value as he is still a good dman but it’s not a haul like some believe

On a team like Dallas where he would be the 3 or 4 he has amazing value. He's just playing a bit above his head right now

Andersson has been an all time great Flames D man. Easily top ten.

7th in all times games played, 8th in assists, and 9th in Points.

Lots to love about a home grown pick. I think we will look back at him fondly.

Hopefully with a video tribute when he comes back with his new team with a bloated contract.

Mutual decision
I've said before that I am fine if he is extended as long as it is a reasonable contract (or has no trade protection) and I am also fine if he is moved as it opens the door for a couple of players to try bigger roles.

On the right side you would then have Weegar, Pachal and an opportunity for Parekh/Brzustewicz.
On the left side you would still have Bahl, Bean, and an opportunity for Solovyov/Kuznetsov/Poirier.

I would be happy seeing something like this next season.

Bahl-Weegar
Solovyov-Pachal
Kuznetsov-Parekh
X: Bean

Bean would probably start on the second pair and move up and down as needed to help bring in the rookies but I think what we have seen thus far of Solovyov makes me think that he is ready (ideally for 3rd pairing time to start) and I would hope that Kuznetsov is equally ready for the opportunity.

It would be a very boom/bust D corp as the young players could thrive in the opportunity or crater the team next season.

Having said all of that, if Andersson were still here next season, that would be a much safer D group.

Plus this will help those of us on Team Tank!!
Fully support this back end. Something tells me we are signing Ekblad though.

I expect a first and the first team to come to Conroy with a good c prospect.

Maybe we can trade him to the Islanders for Richie?
Lou loves his defencemen.

I don’t know about “easily”. Off the top of my head:

MacInnis
Suter
Gio
Phaneuf
Macoun
Regehr
Mcrimmon
Reinhart
Weegar
Hamilton
Russell

I don’t know who I would swap him with?

He is in tough to beat out Jordan Leopold and Toni Loodman as well.

Housley had over 1200 points including a 55 pointer with the Flames

What is the criteria tho?

To be an all time great Flame I think you have to have played more than a few seasons for us.

Jagr is one of the greatest player of all time, but I wouldn't consider him an all time Flame great.

Three seasons not enough? I think that would be a fair minimum

Housley is actually 5 I think, but I think 3 years is short.

Also have a hard time understanding how Russel is an all-time great, when his career was built on blocking shots not a great thing to be famous for.

Yeah holy balls Kris Russell can't hold Rasmus's jock strap.

Love Ras, one of my favorite Flames. But he does seem a step behind this season. Before that he was consistently good and has shown up heart and soul for this team for a decade. I understand the people that think we have let heart strings get in the way of business from time to time but you have to pay respects to people who have laid it on the line for your franchise for 10 years, or no one will be willing to do it.

If the decision is made to part ways I hope we can do it on good terms for a guy who committed to this franchise during one of its darkest periods. And I hope fans don't run him out of town because he's lost a step despite still being one of our best players.
