I’m pretty sure you need a social insurance number to get a Canadian bank account, right? And someone would have access to link the email address to that. Maybe no one here but on Interac’s side.

I wonder if it’s possible to prevent people from sending private messages until they have a certain post count and time on the site.

Sorry to get everybody's hopes up, but I really don't have much more to add. The username they selected matches what they had as their Twitter handle. Most likely just picked the username off a random twitter handle.

The IP addresses they used all come back to VPNs.

As I mentioned they did respond to the text verification. So normally that is good. What is interesting is that when I google that phone number- there is another forum where they reported being scammed by that person for an RV pass.

Jeff- if you want to take this any further please reach out via PM. I am thinking seeing as it's almost a year since registering the phone number is no longer tied to them; so I don't want to post it and potentially cause issues for somebody else.
