Gaudreau- Monahan - Iggy
Tkachuk - Conroy - Hudler
Lindholm-Langkow-Tanguay
Glencross-Backlund-Coleman

Gio-Regehr
Brodie-Phaneuf
Tanev-Andersson

Kipper
Markstrom

Extras: Cammy, Kadri, Sarich, Hanifin

That's the team.
I feel like I'm probably missing someone obvious

Sarich played longer here and when you say his name, you instantly can remember something he did as a Flame.
Hamilton not so much.

That being said though I'm replacing Sarich with Tanev.

All I remember Sarich for is his hit on Marleau, that's about it.

I can remember more from Hamilton, and he was the better player.

I'm surprised there aren't more Sam Bennett and Matthew Phillips submissions.

The idea is to win. So…

Gaudreau-Conroy-Iginla
Tkachuk-Backlund-whoever

Giordano-Regehr
Tanev-Phaneuf

Kiprusoff
whoever

For the RW I would lean toward a defensive minded player like Coleman, but it’s a marginal difference.

Don't think Conroy or Backlund would pick themselves to the top 2 centers on this team lol

Probably why they deserve to be on the team.

We don’t have any star centers, so we should use our great checking centers to shape the team. Yes, I know the game will never be played, but if it was, that’s how I’d approach it. Lean into what you’re good at.

And he was trending up in that last year prior to that injury that killed his career.

What you have is fine, but "whoever" didn't play for the Flames. Pick your team and have the discussion.

I don’t know. Alex Tanguay or Blake Coleman I guess. I have a strong argument for the people I named, but I’m not opposed to other people picking the “whoever” players.

But, Markstrom? Ugh.

That's where I was going with my response. Markstrom probably is the guy on team 2. More of an indictment of Flames goalies the past 25 years, but you need to pick someone.

You’re going with Monahan against Sakic, Yzerman, Crosby, MacKinnon, etc.?

Yes. Play to your strengths. There’s no way Jiri Hudler is going to scare what other teams are going to be able to throw out there
If we're getting this pedantic and assuming for whatever reason that these make-believe-for-discussion-purposes rosters are playing actual games against each other, go all in and assume they're coming up this offseason or next preseason.

Monahan is still an active player in his 30s. Yes, Crosby will still be a handful for him. But he could skate circles around 55 year old Joe Sakic and 59 year old Steve Yzerman. No problem matching him up against either of them.

Of course, going to such lengths to make a point is kind of stupid because these aren't rosters that are actually going to play in anything or compete for anything.

I’d consider Yelle and Simon.

Monahan has had an inferior career in comparison to both Conroy and Backlund.
