Well maybe Huberdeau is going to have a tough time getting 40 assists this year. But he's been around the net and looking like he might have that 30 goal touch back. So that's encouraging.

We've got a chance in this one, especially if we run with Asky between the pipes!
Hopefully EK72's back tonight as well...

4-1 Sharks. Just feels like a thorough win is due. Don't agree with the Kovalenko scratch, but if Goody is on the PK roster then someone has to be sacrificed.
Quote:
This is a very winnable game tonight and I feel like we get it done! Still will be rough with no Walman/Eklund, will be a fun duel in goal Askarov vs Wolf! Sharks 4-3
Quote:
Don’t feel like Kovalenko deserves a scratch at all but okay. I really would like for us to start freeing up some spots for the guys who have earned them — I’m not sure we need Kunin, Grundstrom, Goodrow, Sturm AND Dellandrea currently? I think 2 of these guys can safely get traded.
Anyway, Sharks explode and win 5-1.
Quote:
Sharks have clearly used the uno reverse card and now will not show up for the first in exchange for showing up for the third
I’m-a Wario, I’mma Gonna Win!

Wario's fixation on getting a 4th liner playing up the line up is mind boggling

Why do they keep pointing out Warso being the youngest coach in the notes half way thru the season?

Everyone says goalies are weird. Coaches apparently too.

Free tip for Grier - Overloading on bottom 6 forwards to create competition doesn't work.

What? I was told this off season they were trade assets
Quote:
You can't scratch veterans. They have to play through their struggles.
Not like young players, who you can't let play through their struggles, they have to sit down and think about what they did.

Great job ending that offensive shift Mario.

At least we don't have a lead to blow.

Unlucky for Askarov.

Gorgeous tip, not sure how you can pin that one on Askarov.
Quote:
We're just poking fun. That was all on Ceci for not tying up Huberdeau
Quote:
Take the guy or the stick Ceci
Quote:
Ceci looked completely lost on that one
Quote:
He was between his man and the net, Huberdeau just did a good job keeping his stick free (with his back to Ceci and Askarov). Great tip. If Ceci went harder at his stick he probably loses body position.
Quote:
Did Granlund lose a skate blade? It looked like he fell then tried to push himself to the bench on his knees.

Yes, his skate blade flew into the faceoff circle after blocking the shot.

Heck of a hit

I was thinking the other night you simply don't see hits like that anymore. For the most part for the best as they've massively reduced head shots. But, that was a clean hit and guys just don't risk making those too often anymore.
Quote:
suicide pass
Quote:
I felt that hit at home.
Quote:
I wish the sharks would deliver hits like that once in a while instead of always receiving them
Quote:
That was a suicide pass poor Solomon
Quote:
RIP in pieces Grundstrom.
Quote:
Suicide pass yikes. Also Drew no issue with the fight there...
Quote:
Drew is way too old school calling that a good clean hit. The dude launched himself upwards through Grundstrom where much of the force was to Grundstrom's neck/head.
Quote:
Ngl beautiful hit tho
Wait: oh wait was there head contact?
Quote:
A little but the hit was primarily on the chest with some secondary contact to the head, Grundstrom had his head down catching the pass so that probably had a lot to do with the contact.

Up there with one of the worst periods of the year.
Quote:
Definitely up there for one of the worst periods of the year. Total domination from Calgary
Quote:
Calgary was relentless that period. Sharks might want to copy cat that effort
Quote:
I dunno. I'm just demoralized. If it isn't blowing a 3rd period lead, it's the team's inability to do anything except dump.the puck.
Quote:
It's becoming a common theme that several times a game the Sharks just lag a split second in making a simple clearing out of the D zone. Granlund, instead of just hauling off and sending the puck down on the PK, gets cute and almost loses it. Infuriating
Quote:
Rutta is so bad. Just keep spamming the puck up the boards buddy. Good stuff.
Quote:
Any ounce of pressure when the puck is behind our net throws every skater into constant disarray
Quote:
Muk's decision making off puck in the neutral zone has been really shaky in his brief time in the NHL this season. One of the reasons his xGF% is so bad. So many odd man rushes against where he jumps up in the neutral zone to pressure when there's no 3rd high forward in the middle leading to a 2on1 like that last shift.
Quote:
That weak attempt at clear by Ferraro there was the definition of laziness and poor communication. He had plenty of time to make a play, and neither he nor anyone else on the ice took the time to see what was possible.
Quote:
Watching this team trying to clear pucks is torturous.
Quote:
It's frustrating that rookies are at least trying to use creativity to move the puck and veterans are stuck on chipping it relentlessly off the boards to clear the zone.
Even Mukh is using his edges to reverse the puck or reset.

This game is about as extreme as the Deserve To Win O'Meter gets.
Asking Askarov
Quote:
Oh jeez, Askarov nearly left the net open for an easy goal.

lol Askarov sure loves to come out of his net.

Asking Askarov not to wander is like asking Georgie not to give up 4 goals. It’s not even worth trying.

Askarov v Wolf. Could be a match up we all see several times in the coming years

That was a freeze Askarov should have taken given the d he had out there. They were already struggling to exit and he should have recognized that was a special team built to body guys in the net and ice packs and he should have looked for the line change.
Quote:
Feels like Asky is a bit off tonight. He's lost sight of the puck a few times and been bailed out.

- Celebrini goal.
- Askarov stops 30 of 32 for a .938 sv%
- Competitive for 60 minutes
- Most importantly; lost and didn’t gain any points.

This losing streak has made it abundantly clear how many deficiencies were being masked by MacKenzie Blackwood. With him gone, I think we're realizing that we aren't quite as far ahead in the rebuild as we might have thought we were. We're still in great shape for the future, but I know I was personally feeling like we were maybe a year out from being a playoff team.
Scapegoat Skinner Duet

Jeff Skinner was rightfully benched at the end of the game and will likely sit tomorrow.

Jeff Skinner should be in Europe

Classic Oilers ####ting the bed. Classic.

Was saying during the game how awful J Skinner was in the game. 3 turnovers on one shift in 2nd period, two in his own zone, and then he's on the bench laughing. People really wonder why this clown isn't getting minutes on a contender club?
Kapanen showed Skinner it is possible to get jam in bottomsix and be all around it. Was a star in the game, and deservedly. J Skinner still not happy with Christmas.
Quote:
Jeff Skinner should have signed in Toronto or Florida where he would have been given a shot to score some goals, Knob has no interest in that here, let that be a cautious lesson to UFA wingers who think they'll come here and get McGoals, you're not going to get looks with McDavid.

Dinosaur views on the panel by Bieksa. You drop the gloves after a big clean hit so it doesn't keep happening to your team.
God I'm so bored of that line of thinking.
He did also say that the pospisil hit was clearly clean and kositem (sp?) was wrong.
He said the Pospisil hit was at a low speed and clearly clean so there shouldn't be a reaction and the sharks player was lucky he didn't get a penalty.
On the Pachal hit he said players on the ice at that speed probably couldn't tell and it was extremely early in the game. Grunstumm (sp?) Did come up of the ice with a cut on his face. It was from the ice but players in the heat of the moment don't have slomo 5 seconds after a hit like we do on TV.
I couldn't tell at full speed and saw the sharks player leaving with a cut during the pachal fight. On replay it's clearly clean . Full speed out on the ice I bet it's super hard to tell.

Just got back to my hotel in San Francisco from the game. Flames totally dominated the first period and should have been up 3-0 if we don't make the other goalie look like a Vezina Trophy winner.
Celebrini sees the ice so well. He controlled the game when his line was on the ice against the Flames 4th line but they didn't break.
Was so impressed with how solid of a game Wolf and Huberdeau had tonight. If Backlund didn't have bad luck he wouldn't have any luck at all.
I can relax for the next couple of days and than Monday night - Warriors vs. Cavaliers.

He did score...SJ goalie is legit good too its not just the Flames making him look that way. Him and Wolf will likely be tops of the league soon IMO. Askarov has a .915 on the worst team in the NHL

Great win for the flames in a game that could quite easily have been a bit of a banana skin (long lay off, Christmas food, travel, away game etc.), Boring game to watch though imo.
Huberdeau seems well engaged this season, finally settled into his new environment, and the results are showing on his stats.
Wolf is just being Wolf, and what isn't there to love.
