He’s been bad in Detroit. Holland left him a mess and he had some bad draft luck but he turned around and did the Holland.

I just looked at the defence and they have Jeff Petry playing regularly. Ben Chariot, Gustafsson. Pretty ugly.
I’m not saying that Yzerman didn’t build a great team in Tampa, he drafted well and made some nice moves, but it’s a pretty optimistic situation to walk into when the previous management group had already drafted your franchise C and franchise D.

That’s something that people seem to forget (not saying you do), but Stamkos and Hedman were already in the pipeline.

He’s kind of made a mess of things in Detroit. I love Yzerman, but this is starting to show his real managerial skills IMO

Kucherov, Point, Vasi is more than drafting well. Cornerstone pieces to the cups they won. Point had taken over the 1C spot.

He walked into a mess in Detroit but he created a new one for himself. Maybe continuing the legacy of Holland.

I probably could have chosen a better word than drafting “well”.

I live very close to Detroit and am surrounded by Wings fans, and they all thought it would be a quick fix because of the “Yzerplan”. He’s drafted well (lol) in Detroit, but his free agent signings have been an absolute mess. They honestly seem like a team that’s wandering around in the woods. Decent young pieces, surrounded by ####

That’s why what Conory is doing is great. Just because you have cap space doesn’t mean you go out and use it on long term deals.

Picking Zadina over Hughes probably costs him his job at some point. Now he has Ben Chariot and Jeff Petry.

Holland was the one that picked Zadina, which makes it even funnier.

But yeah, that Chariot contract is bad. Signing Perron and Holl made zero sense

They needed to pay Tarasenko millions because young players can’t play without mentorship from old guys. Don’t blame them.

He went on an absolute heater for the first half of last season but since then he's kind of normalized. Not a bad defenseman and $7.25 million probably isn't too much off market value but the 8 year part is pretty scary and I can't fault Yzerman if that's the kind of contract it was going to take to keep him.

It’s probably a comp for Andersson and why he should be traded.

Stopped shooting. As soon as he stopped shooting he stopped racking up points. He stopped shooting because he tore something in his shoulder that he played through until end of season surgery.

He then promptly hurt that shoulder this year after still not shooting because it was still not feeling right post surgery.

This is all after hurting this shoulder in the year the Canucks traded for him which ended up being the reason they shut him down after only a game or two with the team.

His biggest issue is that his shoulder is going to end his career early.
