Not a Viggen, but a manual 1999 Saab 9-3 was my first car. Definitely had some Scandinavian charm and and was a relatively fun driver...although I wouldn't say it was particularly reliable....it especially had issues with the console-mount ignition (Saab put it there to prevent knee injuries, but the key cylinder was exposed to random dust/crap falling in).

90s cars truly are the best of all worlds. Modern (and safe-ish) enough to keep up, but still analog enough to make you feel something.

Favorite 90s cars:
• 993 Turbo in Arena Red. Killed bugs fast.
• MR2 Turbo, in yellow or red, with the t-tops (like silver's post, saw these in the showroom and was hooked).
• Toyota Previa, in that pale yellow - Still the coolest van of all time.
• Honestly, pretty much any Toyota from the early 90s. Even the Tercel had its charm.
• BMW 8-series. Might be my favourite looking BMW of all time.
• Nissan 300ZX - Also with t-tops, and in yellow. This thing looked like it was from the future well into the 00's.
• Honda CRX - Maybe more of an 80s car, but would love one of these in that 90s teal, or yellow.

Favorite 90s car we owned:
• Dad's Third-gen 4Runner - Pretty much peak Toyota. Unfortunately, it was a gas guzzler and was replaced with a boring Subaru.
• Moms 99 VW Golf (even if it was an unreliable turd, such a fun car to drive). Unfortunately replaced with a much less fun, but definitely more reliable, New Beetle.
• My 964 C2. Seasonally appropriate image below.

Funnily enough, out of the 3 cars, 2 still have 90s roots (1 was made in the 90s, and 1 was launched in the 90s, but is an early 2000s).

Yeah I felt like that came and went pretty quick.

My brother had a '97 Type SH. That was a blast. Still slowish because Preludes just weren't that fast, but really fun to drive. That's actually probably a theme with a lot of 90s cars. If you gave me the choice right now to go for a rip in that Prelude or a brand new...almost anything...I'd take the Prelude all day long.

Sad ending for that one, though. He was selling it in the 2000s. Some guy came along to test drive it and stole it with my brother standing right beside it. The guy was just going to 'fire it up' and ripped away.

I remember driving your Corsica and your aftermarket cruise control smoked out and burnt up in my hand while driving down the highway!

Oh what memories.
My first car was a 95 VS Commodore that I dressed up with a Supercar body kit.

Later on (7 cars later) I got a 98 VT Commodore SS! The Commodore line would eventually make it to N. America as the Chevy G8 and 2 door as the Pontiac GTO.
I also had a GQ Nissan Patrol (and later on a GU3)

Amazing lists by everyone. I particularly loved the Honda Prelude, the Toyota MR2 and I didn't see it mentioned yet, but the Toyota Supra!

Those E36 BMW 3 series were such great cars. So well balanced, you could throw winter tires on it and it would drive better on ice and snow than most front wheel drive cars. A real drivers car, nothing super powerful or anything but just a ton of fun to drive.

I had a 1999 BMW 328is and I also had a 1997 M3. I always keep my eyes on auto trader and Kijiji for an e36 in good condition but there's not much out there these days.

Not a 90s car but I owned a 2002 BMW Z3 Coupe. Didn't have the power of the M version but it was Black with an extended leather walnut interior. I actually found the original ad from when I purchased it on a forum recently, link below. I know the car is now worth about double of what I sold it for about 10 years ago...

my foster kids loved them, easy to steal and a hoot to drive in a high speed chase according to them as we chat over a scotch, they are in their thirties now and can admit to it

1990 Jeep Cherokee.

I loved that thing. It handled like a brick.

Technically a 90s car - I loved my 1999.5 Jetta.

Mine was this colour from the factory (I can't even find a jetta in this colour in online photos):

95 Grand Cherokee for me. Drove it till kidney car line towed it away. Near the end, I swear I was replacing front and back bearings every 6 months. Finally got to the point where I had to decide if the constant repairs were worth it.
I shed a tear at its departure.

Ahahahaha!!! I had a 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee...I loved that car. Let me see if I can find it's final photo.

Ah! Here it is!

Yeah...that was the last day of my Jeep.

Its a long story, but the short version is...it was parked on the street in front of my house. The guy driving the white Dodge Ram was drunk and smashed into it.

That is 3 houses down, 180 degrees spun and on it's roof.

RIP Grand Cherokee.

You held the wires together too long. The trick was a quick tap to simulate the action of the missing button.

I went from a 1978 Honda Accord, to an 88 prelude, to a 98 prelude. The 88 had over 350 000 kms when I gifted it to my sister. Great car, but of course the body was disintegrating on it at that point.

As for semi realistic “dream” 90s cars, it’s funny looking back at some of them. Like why did I think a Pontiac Grand Prix was awesome for a while? Also went through an Eagle Talon phase.
