Lets just be honest and call a spade a spade.

That rendering is a Bond Villain's Lair.

Although I do applaud the forward-thinking of the handicapped parking.

Judging by how it looked the last time I was in Edmonton, I'm certain it already
was sacrificed.

Nothing. Just the application process. I don't know if they can be completely off the grid. I think it has to have the ability to import or export to the main grid, but I don't know if that's a regulatory requirement or just good design practice.

I was checking to see if this had made it to the Alberta Major Projects website yet. It hasn't, but there's a smaller version being constructed in Balzac;

https://majorprojects.alberta.ca/det...a-Center/11416

It includes it's own 90mW power generation plant. Just a baby compared to what these guys are talking, but these places are obviously a real thing. I wonder if Alberta's lack of seismic activity is part of the attraction.

Edit....I read more deeply my own link. This eStruxture company already has 2 of these in the Calgary area. I am clearly late to the party when it comes to what's going on in Alberta with data centers.

It's possible that one is related to this?
It says this would be a slow rolling 15 year long project.

I am not sure if it's related, but it's certainly different. This one is listed as complete (or at least the initial phase is);

From what I read the initial investment was $1.7B, with UP TOO $70B invested.

Which would make more sense.

That being said, still sounds like a big grift.

All obvious grifting comments aside, this actually brings up an interesting point.

AI is going to require a crap ton of power. Who is going to provide this, and how is it going to be done?

In the matrix don't they just use those people pods for power? I'm sure that's where we end up.

I think the Matrix robots need to fight SkyNet and just...winner takes all.

With our goddamned luck they'd end up being pals and teaming up against us united in loathing for their makers.

Just make it end!! If we're going to do this lets just get on with it shall we???

Listen...I think, unfortunately, that the last thing we should be doing is combining SkyNet, The Matrix and the UCP...those groups just have too much in common.

That is genuine 'End of Days' type stuff.

Thought this was interesting. Looks like the project is much further along than just a pipedream.

Wow. Sounds like a phenomenal opportunity for that municipality, as well it can position Alberta to be a global leader in data centre development.

Hopefully we have the correct governments in place at all levels to facilitate the implementation of these projects

"We have a concept plan", next step is to start purchasing, design and get approvals, none has been applied for.

"Sounds like the project is much further along" ??
