He's already cost-controlled and the Rags think he can be had.
Do you think its a coincidence that they just shoved Trouba at $8M out the door? Sure, they signed Shisterkin but theres time before that kicks in.
Thats a fair amount of smoke for there not to be any fire.
How can you tamper with a player under contract for a long time? Tell him to sit out until he's traded to the rangers only. Or tell him to explain to the GM of Ottawa that he won't re-sign with Ottawa in 4 years when his contract is up.
It's not super plausible in my eyes. I don't get how you logically tamper with a player with this type of long term contract
It's probably an easy answer but what happens if, in a highly unlikely set of circumstances, we finish 11th and the sens forfeit this year (say they finish 10th and don't rate this draft class)? Does our pick stay with us or go to Florida?

The 10th pick wouldn't disappear, it would just be forfeited. The other teams don't move up. When the Coyotes forfeited a 2nd in 2020 and a 1st in 2021, those picks just don't exist. 2020 goes from 48 to 50, and 2021 from 10 to 12.

This kind of thing happens all the time where someone in an organization feeds an idea to a journalist to get their interests on the radar of other teams or the player.
Having said that, I’m on the side of never believing the Rangers. They don’t deserve the benefit of the doubt.
This kind of stuff happens all the time in professional sports. I'm convinced that Treliving had a very good idea barring a Toronto Stanley Cup run that he was going to be the next Leafs GM when he was in his last season with the Flames.
Maybe Ottawa is just trying to fabricate some information or make a stink about this in efforts to try and get their 1st rounder back that the league stripped from them for the Dandanov trade? I have heard the owner there is trying hard to get that decision reversed.

Montreal. There is no circumstance where the Flames lose their own first to the Panthers.
“I’m hearing rumours from the Flames organization that they’re interested in players like K’Andre Miller, and that they have around $5m in cap space allocated for a 2 year bridge contract for players like that, and maybe even have the picks available for an offer sheet. So if a player like that doesn’t sign an early extension with the Rangers, then he may be in a favourable position for his next contract.
Allegedly. This is just the rumour I’m hearing.”
Totally not tampering.

$5M per season puts them in the 1st round pick category. Which they don't even have if they don't finish bottom 10.
And, of course, the player must be willing to come to Calgary.
