Yeah after 3 yrs , he still can’t beat 40 yrs old Jack Johnson for a regular spot

He may still turn out something but he is no blue chip

They got a bucket of magic beans, one may turn out.

Did I miss something? Why would Columbus do this? Did Jiricek not want to be there?

I think I'm older than every player in the NHL now, so I know the feeling. (42). I mean, there are a few players already with birth years that start with 200X. Oof.

You are. Fleury just turned 40 and is the league's oldest active player.

I wonder how long until the BJs call up Mateychuk? He is pwning the AHL right now, over a point per game as a 20 year old rookie Dman

Kind of what I was hoping Bruz would be doing.

More from the Athletic:

Quote:
The Blue Jackets initially asked potential trade partners for one of their top prospects, hoping to make a one-for-one swap. When those players weren’t available, the Blue Jackets adapted their demands for a first-round pick and a depth defenseman.
Waddell spent much of the past 10 days on the phone, but by Saturday he had at least two more teams enter the fray, he said, with offers of a first-round pick and depth defensemen. That demand forced the Wild, who were in hot pursuit of Jiricek from the start, to up the ante, which they did.
The fact that NHL GMs were unwilling to go prospect-for-prospect in a trade for Jiricek could be an indication that they shared the same concerns about his skating. Maybe Waddell was wise to move on Jiricek at this juncture before his inability to crack the NHL became a bigger concern.

Quote:
“The aggressiveness he plays with, the assertiveness,” Brackett said. “He wants the puck. He owns a really big shot. Like, he has an absolute bomb. He has an ability to get into spots where he can utilize it and support the rush. He plays definitive in his D zone. You’ll see, even though he’s 6-4, he’s still a little gangly and rangy. He’s still got some room to fill out being 21.
“But the competitive nature of him as a whole is appealing. That World Junior Czech team was very good, and he was the biggest reason why.”

A few? Oh, honey. We are 4 years away from having NHL players born in 2010.

Players that have played at least one NHL game by birth year:

2000: 98
2001: 89
2002: 69
2003: 31
2004: 30
2005: 5
2006: 2

Not all of those 324 players are on current rosters. For example, Jett Luchanko was born in 2006, played 4 games, and is back in the CHL. Tyler Angle was born in 2000, played 4 games over 2 seasons, but is now in Europe. However, there were 169 players born between 2000-2006 that made the opening day rosters of this season, or about 23.5%.

This is a weird trade for the Wild. You overpaid for a project and have a team in 1st place. Why not spend that 1st to help your team now.
