He didn't break a record, or pass someone significant. Big meh.
I get that he's an oiler and E=NG, but 1000 is a huge accomplishment for any player regardless of the team they play for. I remember Iggy had a countdown going on CP before he hit 1000 and fair to say that anyone who would have posted what you said about McD about Iggy, you'd have been slapped out of here so fast . Guaranteed if McD played for any other team he'd get a lot more respect around here. Like it or not he's one of the best ever, has the hardware to prove it, and if we are to honor a player's legacy with them making a SCF like we do Iggy, McD get's the same treatment.

I feel gross sticking up for the guy, but 4th fastest ever to do so which is pretty amazing. Just absolutely blows he plays for Edmonton so no one on this side of Alberta will ever truly appreciate it.

Yup, pretty amazing accomplishment regardless of who he plays for. In fact, doing it despite having to play for the no goods makes it even more extraordinary.

He'll never make it, he's been overused and playing far too many minutes in his pursuit thus far. Hell, you can see signs of him burning out last year already. Once the wheels go, that'll be it. Mark my words, he'll be lucky to get to 1500 when all is said and done. And #$?@ him. Other players have more team accomplishments and individual ones that are happening right now, with no gobbling from the media.

I can't stand that accomplishments can't be celebrated equally because this insufferable prick is in the league.

This is like arguing that a car that has rolled over to 100,000km is worth less than it was at 99,999km a few minutes before. I mean, yes but not because the round number is meaningful but because of the intellect of the average person.

1000 is meaningless.

Same reason things get priced at $9.99. The intellect of the average person.

Since McDavid plays 25 minutes a night, I wonder where he would rank in the fastest to 1000 points per minutes played. Not to mention power play time.

I see what you mean. 'but' is not the problem in the I hate the Oilers statement, it's placement. As long as the but comes first, it's good.

Nobody is saying getting 1000 points isn't a big deal, its that he felt the need to hold court mid game and be worshipped by his team. If you think he didn't know that was going to happen, and approve of it, you are dreaming.

Yes. Technically speaking, so long as the statement is the apodosis and not the protasis in the conditional clause, then it is correct.

Otherwise, you are a dirty, sweatpants-wearing, mullet-sporting Oilers fan.

I hate the Oilers but, despite my bias, they still suck.

(As an aside, my phone wanted to autocorrect "Oilers" to "Toilets", so that's fun)

There's no doubt in my mind that this is the Oilers trying to show how much they care about Connor and appreciate him and please sign with oilers ASAP this summer!

And Connor can't resist the ego stroke.

Would the game have stopped if the 1,000 point was in an away rink like say...the saddledome? of course not.

I think that the oilers milk the merchandise on this as well...and of course the season ticket value of witnessing "historic" things.

and there's no "but".

It’s an accomplishment, sure, but does anyone remember or care about the last few to do it? Can you name them without googling? I couldn’t.
