According to NHL records.com (link) and Wiki (link) (I would quote the book pg if I still had it.) Keenan was fired on June 22, 1998. He was gone before that season started.

Again, there are always at least 3 sides to every story (along with the various interpretations of what is told). And no one is getting unvarnished truth in these books.

The NHL records in your link show Keenan was fired Jan 19, 1999. However, he was acting general manager after Pat Quinn was fired, and Brian Burke took over GM duties on June 22, 1998. But Keenan remained as coach until January 1999, when he was fired and Marc Crawford hired.

I believe that's where the discrepancy lies.

Read the Calgary chapter and I enjoyed Burke's insight into his time in Calgary a lot more. However, I still think Keanen should've been given another year. It maybe would've saved the Flames from making the Phaneuf trade until the offseason. (When it should've been made).

Gretz pretty much confirmed Keenan chased him out of town. (I tried to post the article, but it wouldn't let me.

Sure, Keenan cost them Gretzky and probably Hull but vetoing this jersey cancels that out:
