Whipping boy? Probably Rooney.

Took away a job from youngsters, forcing the Flames to waive and risk losing promising players, and then promptly get injured after playing like 20 seconds... [/greentext]

Mantha seems to be the lay up choice I would think.

And the play since coming back leaves some to be desired.. Not like the bar is high either.

The natural center aspect is over emphasized. Doesn't matter if you're a natural C if you're going to be terrible at it.

I've actually watched a bit of Flames hockey this year for the first time in a while and it has to be Huberdeau. Every time I see some bone headed horrific giveaway or whiff on a pass / shot he's typically the culprit, and he's getting paid a lot of money to do so.

Probably cliche choice after the last few years but it's going to be the story now and for the next 5 years too.

Huberdeau and Mantha are connected in the sense that I think the flames got Mantha for the main purpose of trying to get someone that works well with Huberdeau. I just wish they would avoid signing players for that purpose. At this point… I want Huberdeau to have to make it work with young players. That means Coronato/Honzek/Zary/Pelletier/Posposil/etc. If he finds chemistry with them - great! But if not, I don’t want the flames bringing in vets for the purpose of finding someone that clicks with Huberdeau. I know it’s easy to say because it’s not my money but I think getting him back to being a ppg player should be lower on the list of priorities compared to giving opportunities to younger players.

I thought Coronato would have been an obvious candidate to play with Huberdeau for an extended period. Hard forechecker with good speed and a wicked shot. Isn’t that what a playmaker like Huberdeau needs?

I’ll say Mantha. At least Huby tries.

Really good player for that role and certainly not the same guy that left 5 years ago.

I’d rank them

1. Mantha
2. Rooney
3. Huberdeau
4. Hanley
5. Barrie

Could probably throw 1 or 2 more in on a game by game basis.

After the first 5 games, can't find a whipping boy.

After the last 4 games....

If he just passed 25% more of the time he would be a great player. Blinders.

I think the flames would be a better team if Huberdeau was in the press box soooo Huberdeau.

Fixating on "whipping boys" is dumb.
