Hopefully Barrie can teach guys like Brzustewics and Poirier how to anchor a powerplay.

Probably our leading goal scorer from last year haha

They should call him 'Tyson Barely' as in 'barely better than a random replacement.'

The last couple of days they’ve been practicing with Kuzmenko, Kadri, Huberdeau, Sharangovich, Weegar.

Barrie has been practicing on PP2.

Not that anything written in stone, could change tomorrow.

Don’t mind it. If they can flip him at the deadline, that’s a win.

... but on the other hand, Flames have had an enormous amount of success with mid-round picks (3rd or later). So instead of worrying about development time, I will just focus that this signing will lead the Flames to draft the next:

Wolf - 7th round
Pospisil - 4th round
Fox - 3rd round
Mangiapane - 6th round
Gaudreau - 4th round
Ferland - 5th round
Brodie - 4th round
Prust - 3rd round
Lombardi - 3rd round
Moss - 7th round
Anderson - 3rd Round
Lydman - 4th round
Titov - 10th round
Svelha - 4th round
Hoglund - 10th round
Reichel - 4th round
Fleury - 8th round
Hull - 6th round
Suter - 9th round
Makarov - 12th round
Loob - 9th round

The more bullets in the chamber, the more likely the Flames are of actually drafting another superstar/franchise player/important depth player that leads to success.
That list is exactly why I hate giving away those picks. Twice every three years (roughly) we get someone like that.

So, great signing, hopefully some GM will give us another pick.

The #2 PP was basically the equivalent of playing 5on5 last year. If Barrie can add to that group and pickup some cheap PP points to pad his stats for a potential trade that would he lovely.

I’d be surprised if GMs are honestly that stupid.

“Wow, look how many power play points! What a stat line!” I can see it in 1985, but in 2025? Hah. The funny thing is I’m pretty sure I’m wrong and some still think that way and fall for “showcases,” etc.

Everyone knows what Barrie is, and 20 teams would trade a mid-late round pick for him at the deadline because he’s a veteran NHL D with a high level offensive toolbox.

At $1.25M, he’s practically free to by February.

Win if we trade him for anything.
Win if he sucks and makes us worse.

Not all that stupid if the team that GM works for needs more points out of its 2nd PP unit. Seems kind of smart, actually.

Trading an honestly decent chance at drafting someone on Calgary4Life’s list when you could have had the veteran for nothing isn’t smart.

Conroy is darn close to running this show the exact way I would have, so far. I like what I see.

On an expiring contract, I would think a 40-45 point pace would bring a 2nd. A few teams are going to need depth defencemen and who better than someone who can slide into the quarterback position if necessary…even if just a PP2.

Your way of running the show seems to be that the GM should make all of their changes before the beginning of the season and sit tight for the rest of the season. You won't find a GM in the league that shares your philosophy.

Depth defenceman I guess. I know Andersson has not looked good on the powerplay but if he ends up getting little to no opportunities on the powerplay because they use Barrie instead, will that hurt the return for Andersson? He’s the one that will be the big trade piece this year and the only one left that I think will return a 1st round pick++.

What he has is a particular set of skills. A set of skills possessed, in raw form, by most of our top D prospects. Makes too much sense to have him around as a mentor.

If you have a look at it, go for it. Flames bringing in Toffoli, Dallas trading us for Tanev. Those are players that can put an already good team over the top.

8 games of Ryan Carpenter for a 4th(?) is pure stupidity.
