Examples of deals where they were trying to kick their contention window open and it failed.
I feel like Detroit is in this boat as well, or dangerously close. They have 3 drafted forwards on the roster, they don't seem to have a nucleus of elite talent and they are now too good to bottom out and get that elite piece they seem to be missing.

LA did it, Detroit did it, Calgary and Ottawa did it as well, they tried to accelerate their rebuild by moving pieces and paying for UFAs before they got the right pieces in place.

Rebuilding is hard, man.

They absolutely are. Raymond/Seider a both good, but after that...
I buy into the models that suggest you need at least 5 stars to be a contender.
Which is also why we may be in for a long re-build in Calgary.

I think at this stage they have 1 or 2 potential stars (Parekh and Wolf) though there's a couple others w/ potential. But they need to bottom out to draft at least 2 more this year and next.

It will be interesting to see if they ever decide to move Kopitar, Doughty and Danault

Kopitar only makes $7M for two seasons; imagine the package for a double retained Kopitar

Oh yeah, they're really far out from a successful youth movement.

Parekh, blue chipper
Wolf, also in that category for me

I think you can pull at least one star level player from Basha, Honzek, Gridin, Coronato, Zary

Having multiple first round picks in the next two drafts will be a huge help. And we should be looking to add even more if possible.

Landing McKenna would be a dream. Putting a high end young core around him would be epic.

2 goals on three shots against Jake Allen. Please keep it up. Bodes well for the Devils pick

Other than the Hughes brothers, the Devils are playing close to a full lineup for preseason

Allen was in net.

NJ losses are a good thing this season though!

I think some people are putting way too much stock in pre-season action.

Laine goes down with a horrible looking knee injury:

This is a chippy hockey game. Three* fights already and no signs of letting up.

*Not sure if what Xhekaj did is considered a fight. Would expect him to get some of that DOPS attention.
