I wonder if he was hoping for an offer sheet. I don't know the details, but someone could have offered a one way contact at 800 k and given up minimal compensation. They get a recent first rounder.

No one is going to do that though because the Flames would have certainly matched such a small contract, so the other team would just be wasting time doing Conroy's work for him.

Think this is like the third "joke" you've tried to make about Pelletier being hurt yet in this thread but it doesn't even really make sense.
Last season was really the first major injury of his career and it happened when he put himself in a bad position and then got hit with a dirty hit.
Prior to this past season though he had never really had a major injury in junior or his first couple seasons as a pro.

I actually sort of like the idea of giving offer sheets to Pelletier type players for the Flames.
You can go to 1.5mm with zero compensation. There are probably other players like Pelletier (lots of potential, haven't broken out yet) that would rather get 1.5MM on a 1-way than 800k on a 2-way.
The Flames don't need the cap space, so the risk is minimal. If they don't match you've effectively picked up a young asset for free. Could work out and you got a young good rfa for a bit of cap space, and if not don't qualify next year and no big deal.
In many ways I like that better than "veteran to flip at the deadline" because the potential asset is more direct va getting a future draft pick
If they do match you've cap-constrained another team a little bit more, which might help you in the future.

Yep. Agreed. Makes it a way cooler game of chess.

That’s certainly preferable to his coming out with a chip off his shoulder.

Nothing on his shoulders at all please. They've proven to be a bit fragile.

Yeah I don't get the need to hammer a guy because he had a season where he couldn't get over something and maybe had some bad luck after his return.
Unless you have 2-3 years where you are constantly battling new/different injuries it really isn't warranted.

This is pretty standard given he's not even played a full year in the NHL. There's no penny pinching here, infact he probably got a nice AHL salary raise on the 2 way portion and both sides want to see where this goes.

He is not a recent 1st. Most guys drafted 5 yrs ago either make or bust by now
And nobody is going to offer sheet a guy that may not make their team.

I had high hopes for Pelletier. He looked like a great pick early, but at this point it seems like the accumulated injuries may derail his career.
I still think he could turn things around, but the Flames have better prospects now, so he's going to have to earn a spot. I doubt another team would take a chance on him at the moment. He really hasn't shown much of anything recently - in the NHL or AHL.

I like this kid's chutzpah. Seems like a lot of people are rooting against him. Hopefully he becomes a useful player for the Flames

Keep your head up kid. Head up Elbows and stick up Gordy howe style and maybe guys won't find you in they're tunnel of death.
Honestly, he needs to be his own nuclear deterrent if he's gonna survive in this league.
I remember watching Pospisil getting crosscked in the back last year and no one came to his aid .
I hope ALL our players have some snarl in their games this year....biy they are gonna need it with all the negative talk , attitudes and smack being talked before the season.
I hope he makes it I do but he's too nice . Smiling too much and being a good guy on thr ice . Put that away for games and be a prick and I think his game changes for thr better.
Anyone remember Hakan Loob? He used to like that. Then put on a line with Neiwy and Robert's he became 10 feet tall and wouldn't take S from anyone. That's the Hakan Loob I loved because he became less of a target .
All our smaller players need to be like that . Paul Byron was another one. Small but Paul wouldn't back down from S and I remember Doughty being so pissed at him because Byron was running him all game with that speed of his and Paully hit like a truck.

2nd Joke, and he put pen to paper. For him there is a legitamite concern for injury there. The guy is injury prone and needs to be moved asap before his value goes any lower, just because its been brought up doesnt mean it shouldnt be repeated until hes traded. We need to pull the reverse Curtis Lazar before its too late (probably hurt in the first week of the season)

Maybe it's only 2 times in this thread but I swear it's been consistent over the last couple weeks in other threads too.
And this injury prone angle is false. One injury plagued season in his entire career does not make a guy injury prone.
The real problem is moving him now would already be selling low. Maybe you'd get a 3rd back at this point, or more of a like for like swap with a prospect in a similar situation.
Way better off taking a chance that the guy who was seen as a top prospect coming into last season after 2 very strong AHL seasons in his first 2 years as a pro potentially has a bounce back season.
