Just take out the horrible conversations in BAP, add the same contract stuff and record/stat keeping they added to Franchise, and I would consider buying.
I haven't played in over two iterations. But if they are adding some of this stuff to Franchise I sure as hell hope they worked all the crappy bugs out.
The progression stuff was always completely nonsensical. You would have a guy have a 150 point season and all his stats regress, and he's 22 years old.
It was complete nonsense. Hopefully at least some of it was fixed.
You couldn't pump and dump people either. They could be leading the league in goals but have 0 trade value.

I'm glad they're re-visiting the Franchise mode, but this feels awfully convoluted with the potential to just generate frustration with how hair-brained EA generally is around new features.

They released a gameplay video and people seem pretty annoyed (shocking, I know). The weird-ass darkened arena goal celebrations are still in there despite being one of the most hated features. The Hughes brothers (who were playing the game with an influencer) kinda openly complain about things during the video... it's a curious peice of marketing that I would never show to the public.
I get that influencers are annoying, but why wouldn't they have two super fans give it a spin and try out all the new stuff? Feels like a layup to me.
On the plus side, I forgot I bought a year of EA Play a few months ago, so I guess I can try it on Friday for 10 hours. That'll be cool.
I really wish they could go back to a madden 04-08esque franchise/be an owner mode. where you could actually rebuild your stadium, get arena naming rights, improvements besides the generic ones that chel has offered for the last 10 years. I do like the fact you can build out your coaching staff and scouting staff. but it would be nice if you could create a coach
So I gave it a few games... I actually kinda like it (but I also liked 24). It improves on a few things I found annoying, and does not improve at all on some others which I find curious. All in all, I'd say it'll be a nice sale pickup.
I only play franchise mode though, so things like game speed and how they set things up as default don't really impact me at all.
Like:
- I think you can shoot at loose pucks in the crease without automatically taking an interference penalty
- The CPU teammates seem to go for the puck a bit more
- I have this bad habit of hitting the player-select button (which is the same as the pass button) to fix the previous issue, which often results in a player going for an errant puck and then launching a pass to nothing... that seems to be not happening in this one
- The stats that show in the menu before a game are pretty sweet.
- The menu is MUCH better organized (in franchise mode at least)
- You can turn morale off praise Jesus
- I quite live the new replay cameras
- The return of the score clock is much appreciated
- The return of the shot fake on R3 is almost worth the whole game purchase for me
Dislike:
- The weird arcade goal celebrations and hits where the lights turn down drive me bonkers
- I'd love a way to adjust how many or how few replays you get. I'm weird and would like one every break (whereas most just want to get back to playing). The non-goal replay occurrence seems the same as last year, where it's really only for massive hits. I want saves.
- I like the concept of the grudge match but I wish I didn't have to listen to the commentary to get it

Couple of updates after some time:
The weird arcade goal celebrations seem to have been removed in an update. They still do the weird celebration, but it doesn't dim the stadium lights and zoom in on them doing some insane Fortnite dance. I'll take it.
I turned off the commentary as I found the colour commentary too much. You'd be cycling it around the zone with 30 seconds left looking to tie it and Pounder is going off about proper body position in the neutral zone. Turns out turning it off doesn't really matter for the Grudge Matches because it still shows the stats on screen.
had it in the mail today. Had a good chuckle when I fired it up for the first time ... this is my third NHL game in seven years (had NHL 18 and NHL 22 on PS4), and I'm pretty sure it's still the same god damn interface, menu and so on. Incredible.
This is the least fun gameplay they have ever put out. Which was already a pretty low bar.
I kinda feel for the devs. We all want a different feel. I realize I'm in the minority, but this is easily the most fun gameplay in a hockey game I've ever experienced. Hopelessly addicted.

To each their own and no stomping on joy here.
The latest update crippled Franchise mode in a pretty bad way. Tons of glitches and latency.
I'm so glad I only paid half price.

I haven't noticed anything but I'm terrified. People are reporting 94 game seasons and stuff... like I don't know how you even fix that. I've got a save on a usb stick just in case.
Jeebus. NHL25 is broken on franchise already. There is so much lag in the roster and other screens. You click on a player to bring up player details and the franchise overview loads.
You try to make a trade and it selects the wrong player to trade.
WTf are they doing with these updates.
I took 3 years off NHL and it seems to be worse than it ever was.
Although I think the gameplay is a bit better in some ways. In others not. Why can you not hit anymore. Not just the opposing players avoiding but literally like the other players have forcefield around them and you just deflect off them.
So weird and stupid.

Lots of latency in menus, trading, scouting, etc.
I've seen some people have stats doubling and tripling, but hasn't happened in my mode...yet (knocks on wood).
Sim intervention is busted.
I don't play a ton and haven't seen the worst of it, but what I have noticed isn't good.
