I guess. But I think it says something about his negotiating. Bowman was in a weaker, more desperate position and I think most would agree he got the better of Grier in this circumstance.

The Sharks have always been a garbage organization. The Oilers of California.

They gave their 4th to Tampa for retaining salary on the Henrique trade.

Top Shelf Hockey guy mentioned that apparently there was chatter that Ceci and Draisaitl are really tight and Draisaitl has gone to bat for him in the past. That was uploaded before the Ceci trade, so it's not like it was something said after the trade.

It would be hilarious if Pissy becomes even more pissy because his buddy got traded.

It also makes me wonder if Ceci is a popular guy on the team, how the locker room relationships will be with Broberg and Holloway if either are matched.

I wish San Jose didn't let the Oilers off the hook so easily, but this trade is still a downgrade on their blueline.

Are we really upset about the Oilers having to give 4.5 to BROBERG and being forced to trade a player they had starting above him last season and a pick to do it? While likely losing Holloway?

I don't get it

This is a PR move for the Oilers not a good hockey move

Bah, you're right. PuckPedia displays it incorrectly.

I would be super pissed if they got Bouchard for 4.5 million next year.

I am fine with Broberg getting that. There is always an Oiler who gets paid after losing in Game 7. First it was Pisani and now it is Broberg.

You only leverage a 3rd for that contract?

They're under the gun and you don't squeeze them for more?

Why would you match on a guy who has asked out of the organization twice now in 6 months? Locker room tension incoming?

Dutch auction. The Oilers kept raising their offer until somebody bid.

In that situation, you never know who's going to be the first to crack, or when. Grier was smart to take the 3rd instead of letting someone else get a 2nd.

Especially if Broberg bombs on the deal and they had to ship out a guy that was well liked.

Wonder if Broberg demands a trade.

Edit. Oh I guess he can’t for a year.

He'll be SOL. Can't be traded for a year if the Oilers match.

Letting Holloway go while they keep Broberg is hilarious. Holloway's offer sheet isn't that outlandish, Broberg's is crazy high. Means higher expectations. Thankfully the media and fans there are so affable and warm to players that aren't living up to expectations. Good thing Broberg really wants to be there and has never requested a trade in the past 9 months, unlike Holloway....

Agreed (you meant Broberg of course).

Ceci’s one year at a little over $3 million isn’t some huge anchor so a 3rd seems about right. Oilers aren’t getting any better here really.

Like everyone else, I assume the trades today indicate that they are keeping Broberg and letting Holloway walk… but did the moves they made actually give them enough cap room to keep both if they put Kane on LTIR before the start of the season? I know they will have to make space for him later but, let’s be honest, they’ll just do the Begas thing and find someone else to put on LTIR at that point.

I am still not convinced that getting rid of Ceci means they are matching Broberg. It would be totally on par for the Oilers to forsake defense and go all in with forwards. Plus, removing Ceci's cap hit and adding Broberg's would still make it hard for them to be cap compliant.

This has to cause some friction in the locker room. CC was well liked by the players. It’s going to get interesting if they match.
