I don't see any ultra-rich Europeans in Canmore tbh. Maybe they just don't interact with me? The quite-rich people I know there are O&G execs, and retired execs.
There is Cairns Landing or whatever that place is called with some mega homes and there are probably other mansions around. I guess I don't know who owns those. Maybe it is rich Europeans. Just weird that I've never encountered them. You'd think they'd be all over hanging with a schlub in a random condo.
There was a big push 20 or so years ago to get Brits buying up condos, I'm not sure how that worked out. Do those count as rich Europeans? Not anymore, I guess. But ya, I'd assume most of the money out there is Calgary money these days.
I would think that the direction in which accessibility to healthcare is going, especially in rural areas, access will be a bigger factor in people's decision to move to places like this; retirees, in particular.

Was the local dentists' association behind that push?

There’s a Walmart in Pincher Creek, not too far away. My brother in law lives in Coleman and loves it. Calgary got too big. My wife wants us to retire there. Drs would be a concern, but there’s a hospital there.

Co-Op too in Pincher Creek.

My dad was born in Coleman and my grandmother lived there into her 80s. Awesome place and one of the most beautiful drives on the Cowboy trail to get there. The history is awesome and there’s a ton of cool things to see. The golf course is a great deal for the price.

Lots of beautiful back country down there. We've been slowly exploring the back roads between Pincher and Coleman. Camped at Beauvais Lake about a month ago and found a back road between Beaver Mines & the highway, that dumps out in Hillcrest. Gorgeous back in there. A friend of ours lived down there as a kid, then moved back to the CP to work as a young adult. Lots of interesting stories to tell and he's always pointing out roads for us to go exploring down. At some point, I'd like to get up to North York Creek, where an RCAF DC-3 crashed in 1946. There's allegedly a "ghost town" north of the Frank Slide Interpretive Center that I'd like to find too.
I really like the area. Not super touristy, seems fairly quiet. Wicked storms in that area in the winter, from some of the commentary I've seen on road conditions there.

I live in Fernie and I love CP. Excellent biking, amazing hiking, unreal golf, decent hill for night skiing at PP, close to Fernie and Castle for bigger mountain skiing, great sledding, world class fly fishing and (IMO) the brewery is better than Fernie brewing.
Yeah it’s rough around the edges with the miners (same as Fernie) but money is coming in and it’s going to be similar to Canmore. Except it’s really windy.
I wouldn’t think twice.
The Crowsnest will never be a Canmore. Crowsnest has been there since the inception of time. I love it, my entire fathers side of the family is there. But no Canmore will it ever be. The golf course is great. But not much in the town anymore.
My parents retired there and love it. Old Man River Brewing in Lumberk has a jam night on Wednesdays (pretty sure) and it's sometimes hosted by a guy named Larry.
I wonder if that's the same Larry who's airbnb I stayed at in Lundbreck?
I worked on a dept of highway survey crew there in 1968. The 4 of us, all in our early 20’s, rented an apartment above the liquor store in Coleman - good times.
Working on the highway, laying down the blacktop
Working on the highway, all day long I don't stop
Working on the highway, blasting through the bedrock
Working on the highway, working on the highway
I met her at a dance down at the union hall
She was standing with her brothers, back up against the wall
Sometimes we'd go walking down the Union tracks
One day I looked straight at her and she looked straight back

Probably because they're all outside heli-hiking and you're afraid of bears!
Wasn't Canmore getting infiltrated by Germans at one point? I haven't been there in a while so probably take my comments with a grain of sarcasm.
I really don't think so. I think outside of Calgary and Edmontonians (eww, I know), people from India would make up the largest group of people in Canmore from other places. A lot of the restaurants are owned by Indians now. Market Bistro, Italian place on main, the old Canmore Hotel/dive bar, etc.
I've yet to see a German person there. Japanese and German people used to flock there in the 90s, but not anymore from what I see.

I'd count 'em, but I don't see them, either. I remember riding the chairlift with some Brits who had Canmore condos in the early 2000s, but not sure what happened there. They don't seem to make up a large portion of the communities I run into.
I'd take all this with a giant grain of salt. My dance card is full so I actively try to not make friends there. It's possible/likely I know nothing.
