Seems like a good kid still living his dream. He is probably as surprised as we are today. All the best to him.

One of the youngest players in the draft too, 18 in December.

One of Hoskin's favourite players is Jonathan Huberdeau.

Seems like a nice kid in the radio interview. Described himself as a smaller guy growing up so he admired Johnny Gaudreau (probably the explanation for going the OJHL route).

Niagara recruited him heavily and have been in constant contact with him and he's excited to play there in the fall.

One of the guys on the broadcast mentioned when he was working for a team, they'd have a list of about 100-120 players, so it seems no team is ranking everyone, but that's still double than what Button said.

“Every draft eligible player” is literally tens of thousands. It’s EVERY 18-year old hockey player, and those 19-20 who were not drafted. That’s not really feasible.

Yeah, it’s also likely a list of players they think will be available around their picks. It’s not like they have a list of 80 players that will be gone by the third round. Or this guy could have simply been their BPA

Tod Button tells Steinberg that he doesn't know Hoskin very well, watched him a little in the World Junior A challenge. Was recommended by scout Terry Doran

I wonder what team had me ranked highest in my draft eligible years.

This is an interesting pick for sure. Would have been draft eligible 2 years ago. And had super pedestrian numbers last 2 seasons. Completely unlisted on almost all boards.

Maybe he's a late bloomer and they found a diamond in the rough. Who knows. Be interesting to keep tabs on him.

I’d think they would, as it would be a poor job if there are any potential trades of picks and they are unprepared

Yeah, compound W works on warts for 17 year old's especially ones that lead an entire CHL league in goals as one of the youngest players, I get the love for a hard working young man like Hoskin but I couldn't see him going before the 5-6th round to anyone else, passing on Poirier this many times sucks donkey balls.

Hahaha it’s good when the big boss already washed his hands and refused to take responsibility for you…

Strange pick indeed. I am sure a lot of D+2 20yrs old can score in his league

Meh, he literally just turned 20 so this was his 19 year old season.

And he played the same league last year and went from 16 goals to 42 goals and 61 points to 100.

Then he followed that up with 11 goals and 28 points in 18 playoff games.

They're taking a long shot at what looks like potentially a late bloomer with high upside.

I love what they are doing. Wasn't long ago we watched them take defensive Dmen with 2nd and 3rd round picks.

I like it, that's why it's nice having 10 friggin picks. So you can throw a ton of mud at the wall, see what sticks.

It'll be interesting to watch how he does in College next year.

Yeah the whole "he is a 20 year old" thing is ridiculous.

He has not played a single game at that age.

Its a home run swing.....when u have 10 picks its ok to take a shot here and there.

IIRC some guy named Makar was drafted out of the same level of junior.

CP - The Flames never take any big swings in the draft

CP - I can't believe the Flames took a swing on this guy!!!
