In every trade outside of Zadarov, he pressed a fast forward button - and he even traded the 5th he got in the Big Z trade for a player who has pissed off to the KHL.
Conroy’s only reference to a 3 year plan is when he notes the next 3 years as being important for the amateur scouts because of the returns they’ve gotten in the trades so far (picks in the next 3 years).
He has been retooling. In going back and looking at his year end, I still find it laughable that he cites Dallas. He notes Dallas’ draft (which includes a 4th overall pick), and their free agent work. Nothing about what Conroy says shows any desire to do anything other than what we’ve been doing all these long, painful years.
Conroy is looking for shortcuts. He cites Montreal trading for younger players. I imagine it’s due to ownership, and it is what it is.

Sharngovich was a roster player brought back because we needed another player. This trade was also done in June of 2023, long before any offers had been made to Hanifin, Lindholm and Backlund.
Miramanov is a throw in, not sure how he is a fast forward but ok. Kuzmenko was crap, they brought him in for salary cap purposes and rebuild is value and most likely dump him at the next deadline.
Grushnikov is an AHL player at the moment, who probably has bottom pairing potential in the NHL. I don't really see him pushing the team forward or backwards.
We didn't have the depth in the AHL to plug any of those holes that we traded away. We still need to ice a team and be cap compliant.
So which one of these foundational players are we retooling around?
If he starts doing weird #### like trading picks and prospects we may have an issues. Lets see what the roster looks like in September.
