I usually don't believe in coincidences, but I am not leaving my house with a pitchfork in hand quite just yet. I have picked it up and started sharpening the thing, but I am not quite convinced of who I need to be sticking quite just yet.
Once the players are named, we can all start building that big bonfire. Let's just hold off a bit before we start the lynching. My pitchfork is really pointy now though.

There's certainly a possibility that all the posts in the Dube LoA thread wishing him well, praising the Flames for their approach to mental health etc. etc. could age like milk.

Cale Makar
"I was not involved in any way. I was totally unaware of the allegations until I — along with the rest of the team — was contacted by investigators in the weeks following the event in London. I met in person with the investigators in the summer of 2018 and answered all their questions. I did not know any of the details until I saw the article this week," Makar said in a statement provided to CBC.
Vs
Jordan Kyrou
"As a member of the 2018 world junior team, I am aware of allegations made against certain members of that team.
"I want to clearly state I did not attend the Hockey Canada Gala and was not in London, Ontario, at the time of the alleged incident. I am prepared to co-operate with any additional investigations in the future if necessary.
One met with investigators and one is prepared to meet with investigators.

yes it's quite baffling to me how so many went from pure scapegoating -> tripping over themselves to apologize to Dube. Some might benefit from maybe just waiting a bit for the other shoe to drop before you say anything, youre not Stephen A Smith, you dont have to have a take on every development

Steve Simmonds already doing the linking out loud to the two players taking leaves of absence. At this point we should probably check ourselves if we're sharing Steve Simmonds PoV.

I thought at one point he said he wasn't in town at the time, but easy to get these things mixed up.

The approach to mental health will age well regardless of what happens with this.

It's easy to read between the lines of what some of the players or their lawyers stated publicly. While being vague and saying they weren't involved in wrongdoing and are cooperating isn't an admission or evidence of guilt or knowledge, saying less is something you would expect them to do if they may have been involved. For example, Gadjovich's lawyer called the incident reprehensible and was a lot stronger in his words when it came to cooperating. If a lawyer thought their client did something reprehensible, I doubt they would air that publicly. You never know though, maybe their client wasn't forthright either.
Strickland tweeted in August that there would be a total of 5 players suspended once everything is final and hinted that he knew the names, but couldn't mention them. More than 5 players gave really vague answers though.

I have begun stocking up on Torch-fuel so the villagers may hunt down the monsters, but at the moment the torches and the fuel reside in different rooms.
For now...
You bring the pitchforks, I'll bring the torches...if/when the time comes.
As for the lynching? I know a guy who knows a guy who has lots of rope and a giant burn-pit.

Always best to keep spare pitchforks and torches in your trunk for those who show up empty-handed.

I know the Flyers tweet doesn't mention mental health, but if this and Dube's absence really is due to the Hockey Canada fallout, I think it would kind of stink to use mental health as a cover.

Calgary4Life is on pitchfork duty. Besides....you have to have those sharpened from time to time.

I will admit right now though....they are Tiki-Torches and that brings some problems of its own.
So...no Khakis and no Golf shirts! Nobody wears white! No Camaros!

I feel like in terms of the speculation, it's worth going back to the concept of "twice is a coincidence, three times is a pattern"... this is two. If there's a third, it becomes hard to avoid drawing some conclusions. But we're not there yet.
