Which player should they have drafted at 109th instead, and why?

And here are the average stats of ALL players taken in the 2017 draft as of today:

Average NHL Career Games: 126
Average NHL Career Goals: 19
Average NHL Career Points: 53

So as the 109th/217 players taken, he is pretty dang close to having the average stats of all drafted players, but he actually has the 38th most points in his draft class of the 102 players who have played a game, so I would put that at well above average for those actually playing.
N.B. those are the average NHL career games played, goals and points of players who have actually played a game in the NHL to this point. 115 out of 217 players selected in the 2017 Entry Draft have never played an NHL game, including 36/108 players selected before Ruzicka.

Thus, the fact that Ruzicka has even played a game makes him "above average".

The averages (mean) including for all the guys who've never played a game are:

59.4 games played
9.1 goals
25 points

The median stats are... zero games played, zero goals, zero assists.

I can see Klapka getting the Edmonton since he's already up. Then Coronato to fill in after for the remainder of the time. Unless Klapka wows.

Oh these are interesting tidbits.

Didn't realize Kylington was playing again, and good to see they might get Coronado in for tomorrow.

Hopefully it's MC and Klapka in for Dube and Ruzicka.

I'd rather have Kyilly play as a forward more than Dube or Ruzicka

Is this Oliver's second game for the Wranglers? I thought he was hurt game one. How can he play in the NHL with so much time off and only a couple of conditioning games?

If AHL pace caused an injury then surely there is no point in having him pop a gasket in NHL.

Can't the Flames extend the stint? Seems like a player safety issue.

Call it, load management after being away for a year and a half. He's still a month or two away. I'm sure he's gonna be ramping up practices with the big club after tonight. This is only the beginning of his on ice come back.

They can do a regular conditioning stint after this for 2 more weeks. Then he's probably practicing with the big team.

Pulled groin, which is actually a common training camp occurrence.

Yes, it's Kylington's 2nd game.

I'm pretty sure that the Flames can apply to extend his stay(to 5 games). Not sure if they applied. Another option is for him to return to LTIR, and have another conditioning stint shortly after.

They did apply and received permission, which is why he's still with the Wranglers at the moment.

After that, they can activate him from LTIR and give him a 14-day regular conditioning assignment with the Wranglers. The difference is that his cap hit will count.

I don't expect to see him with the Flames till February.

Loss of Pospsil is big for that line; the space it afforded Zary and the style that it allowed Kadri to play his own game.

Kadri has two players on that line that really compliment him. A skilled guy and a gritty energy guy. I think part of the problem with Kadri last year is that he (right or wrong) thought that he had to do it all on his line, both for skill and for energy and grit, and he seemed/seems to became easily frustrated when he feels he has to do too much heavy lifiting on his line in the skill dept or grit dept, and shut down a bit.

With Zary and Pospsil, he has a guy he can mesh with on the skill level in Zary, and also a guy who has energy, a bit of skill and can skate will get dirty to get the puck in Pospsil...so Kadri has the right balance and doesn't feel he has to do it all, or devote too much time to pick retrival or skill because he has linemates that do that...so he can just play his game.

Ruzicka isn't Pospisal energy wise or grit wise or create space wise for his linemates. Obviously Coronato isn't that type of player either. No idea about Klapka and how much different he is from Ruzicka. I would lean towards putting a bigger body on that line as opposed to another skilled guy (like Coronato) to help create space for Zary and someone else willing to get knocked around to get/keep the puck.

Regardless, be interesting to see how Kadri responds because his season really took off when he got lined up with Zary and Pospsil and he could focus on doing what he was well, and not trying to do too much.

On the radio, said that still not approved for a second conditioning stint.

That's why the quote from Pat stated likely his last AHL game.

Pospisil should be back in the game against BOS, Feb 6th. It's the First game back after the all-star break.

We miss him. Big time.

Almost the heart of the team.

He brings chaos.

Thought this might be worth looking up...

With him: 19-11-4, .618
Without...: 2-11-1, .179

Insane.

He brings more than chaos, apparently.
