Ask them why you should buy a vehiche that they are telling you is going to have problems that you'd need this extended warranty. Be a jerk, make a scene, question them hard, thats my advice. At the worst they'll all but guarantee you that the vehichle is good enough that you don't need the stuff so they still get the sale, or they'll fail to convince you that the vehichle was good enough for you in the first place.

Invest in a Lemon-Aid guide by Phil Edmonston - it might save you thousands...
Those books are decent, but not really worth buying in my opinion, if you already have it narrowed down to a few vehicles. I grabbed the '02 - '03 editions from the library and read what I needed in less than 10 mins.

A big NO to the warranty.

No is always the best answer, even more so with a Toyota. The thing isn't going to break on you, they never do!

I used to own a mini-van. They are awsome for young families. Tons of room, and decent gas milage. I would suggest a larger model though. I have 2 kids, and the shorter wheelbase was not big enough for us.
I have a Dodge Dakota Quad cab now, really good truck, lots of room. Eats the gas though. Do some research, Toyota is great... cost a lot though.

I've never heard any so-called car experts recommend the extended warranty. If you are worried about a model breaking down within the warranty period then use the money you would have spent on the warranty to buy a better vehicle.

Default Warranty

Thanks for the feeback guys,

Regarding the warranty, I agree with you, buying a Toyota, and paying the extra should make the warranty not necessary. How the Mgr sold it was talking about the computerized components, the things you just never know about, and they are expensive to fix. In the end though, I'm not really even buying piece of mind, rather 1 year of piece of mind, a pretty big difference.

Did you have any thoughts on the "Environmental Package"?
  • Fabric protection (lifetime gurantee)
  • Paint protection (lifetime)
  • Rust protection (lifetime)
  • Undercarriage coating
Cost is $1,000

Give Ivan a call KT Japanese Auto Accessories. 998-2228.
I got the
Fabric Protection
Paint Protection(Diamond Kote)
Rust Inhibitor for $300 cash. He's been doing Honda's and Toyotas for 10 years.

He couldn't do the undercoating on my hybrid because it voids the warranty with Honda. I think it's $400 including the undercoating.
Great stuff and half the price of Honda.

Well if I were to buy a new car right now, I'd seriously look at the Impala SS. 4 or 8 cylinder variable engine? sweet. Front wheel drive is bad as far as a muscle car kind of thing, but good for Calgary's unplowed side streets. 303hp and gas mileage comparable to my Saturn.

niiice...

I bought an '06 Pontiac Vibe (same as a Matrix) 2 months ago and have no complaints yet. You'd be surprised how much can fit in it with the back seat folded flat and the front passenger seat folds forward as well. Great little car!
