Why is there a weakness/gap in padding there? Couldn't this then happen in a game?

What an unfortunate freak thing. But as long as Vladar's mom (or grandma?) is in town or flown in I'm not worried.

I'm assuming it's a puck that ramped up the stick. Padding does exist but it's not great and really depends on how you're holding the stick. This is a good example.
There are products you can add to the stick to help with this but I doubt it's allowed at the NHL level.

Ultimately, equipment failure happens no matter what and it sucks he got unlucky.

Have to assume Vladar gets the net agains the Wild. If he has another great game he might get the following game against Carolina. In that case, the earliest we might see Wolf is against the devils on Saturday.
