Yeah, quite the shock. You'd expect at least three or four with the linemates he plays with, the draft capital we spent on him, the salary he's earning, and this amount of opportunity.
The undrafted college free agent signing cost draft capital?

Good, I want that kid playing lots of minutes instead of munching popcorn. Solovyov is the guy you call up after trading Zadorov or Tanev and inject him into the lineup full time.

Duehr has been on the ice for more goals scored than goals allowed and has more primary assists for the entire season than Huberdeau.
If that's grounds for criticism for an undrafted non-prospect $825k 4th line/13th forward, I'm not sure what to say. There's only so much you can do with your half hour of ice time in the month of November.
I don’t think Ruzicka is an energy guy. He’s also playing his way off the team, but mostly because he never brings energy and isn’t bringing any offence to make up for it.
I'm not talking energy specifically - more just attention to play and effort.
Duehr I see as a guy who found a groove last season but maybe assumed a bit too much heading into this one (and Greer is eating his lunch right now). It's possible that these kind of guys you just rotate through every year and try and stay ahead of their curve.

You’re right, it’s silly to expect 4th liners to play above replacement level in order to avoid being replaced. An incredibly astute observation.
No criticisms of Duehr, please! He wasn’t drafted and is making league min! It’s a miracle he can tie his skates!

There's no harm whatsoever in someone like Solo coming up for a week to practice with the bigs, earn an NHL paycheque, and possibly suit up for a game or two. The same should be happening more often than it has with Wolf as well.
Giving some of these guys a taste when they are performing in the AHL is a great way to motivate them to push harder and gain more experience on what it takes to be a quality NHL player. Rotting in the minors until a spot is open seems archaic when we've seen first hand this year how even unexpected players may be more ready than anyone would think.

Totally agree Shows hard work in the A goes noticed.
This is the thing. Greer's been good, Duher's not better than Dube despite the latter's whipping boy status and that leaves Ruzicka. When Pelletier's back Duehr moves even further down.

Coronato will be back with the Flames in the not-too-distant future, also.
What do you think replacement level is if it's not a freely available player making league minimum?
And he's actually had a positive goal differential while on the ice.
Despite the team getting caved in when he’s on the ice and allowing more shots and shots attempts than his line generates when he’s on it. His advanced stats are bad and his production is bad. Even in his limited ice time, he’s not doing anything of value.
Replacement level is the level at which a player could be replaced by a player in the AHL and the team should see no drop-off in contribution to goals and wins.
As I said, he’s put himself in a position where he’s playing himself off the team. Every single forward on the team is outplaying him by some metric. “He doesn’t make a lot and he was free” doesn’t justify him keeping his spot over a call-up.

Caved in when he's on the ice. I wish all of our team would get "caved in" when they're on the ice, and look at the stat sheet and find out that they've outscored their opponents while they've been on the ice. That's...sort of the only way to win games.
What advanced stats of Walker Duehr in 2023-24 are "bad"?

Like to the Wranglers.
I think they should give Klapka a spin on the AHLer revolving door.
