Crazy thing is that the rumour went viral so fast… Bedard is likely going to be chirpped about this constantly for years. True or not.

I mean, it surely isn't true - but when the Blackhawks of all teams terminate a contract, the rumour is probably more fun than the truth.

Well, if it is criminal in nature, it will be a spectacular story. It would have to be incredibly heinous and egregious for them to cut before being convicted.
Bruins haven’t even cut Lucic yet and that happened weeks ago.

The 'Hawks being super quiet and vague about this has added jet fuel to the raging bonfire of rumours and speculation.
Hopefully more details come out soon. This is quickly becoming one of the biggest stories of the year.

If true, to avoid any awkwardness, they should just give Bedard a fresh start and trade him. To Calgary.

I bet there’s clauses for activity and behaviour in team facilities. Their statement leans into that a little talking about professional and safe work environments.

That's the thing. The Hawks don't need cap space. They aren't trying to smash this through because he sucks and they want him off the team so they can acquire someone. Team-wise, they have no motivation.

And yet they are treating him like a hand grenade.

It must have been something very politically unappetizing

No chance they could terminate for infidelity.

I’m sure it will go public with what he actually did. What are some examples of ways teams have terminated contracts? LA did it a couple times I think. Definitely did it with Richard’s contract when he was caught taking drugs across the border I think.
 |
They did it to Voynov but it was only after he was convicted of (not merely charged with) domestic violence.

Not to lean into the rumour, but 100% having sex and some sort of inappropriate conduct in a team facility could be grounds for contract termination.

Certain teams get to eff around and not find out.

Toronto/Vegas/Tampa with LTIR, Chicago with Kyle Beach, LA with Mike Richards, San Jose with Kane.

I expect Perry will sign a league min deal with the Oilers, file a grievance with the union and Chicago will pay him out and end up with a reduced cap hit.

Statement said professional and safe work environment, so unless they banged in the locker room or team plan it has to be something much worse.
I mean this is the Chicago Blackhawks they hid rape for years.

If the rumor is true, kind of reminds me of the rumor Dion was traded outta town for sleeping w Connie's wife. Never confirmed or denied

For legal reasons Chicago probably cant come out and say too much...but man they really are leaving Bedard and his family out to dry here but not being transparent with what happened and shutting down those rumors.
