I said last year the reason they looked so good was the addition of Brunette taking over the PP and the offence and not some great comeback by Lindy Ruff. I also said they should have let Ruff go and gave the HC job to Brunette, just a stupid decision by management there.

Can't agree with a single thing you've said.
Teams that are one point from winning the division and advancing to the second round of the playoffs don't fire their coach.
I would have liked them to add a goalie in the offseason, but the options weren't good and Schmid played pretty darn good in the post season.
Hughes, Hischier and Meier have all missed time this year, they haven't been healthy at all.
They are missing Graves on the back end, they really don't have a shutdown pairing at the moment, thus the Zadorov to the Devils talk.

And their goaltending has been... erratic.

They were ready to can him after a slew of underachieving seasons and then a guy who is coming off coaching the Panthers to the President's trophy comes in and takes over the offence and they are suddenly good? In what world did they not see that Brunette was the reason? They didn't even play the same way they had prior to that and low and behold they look listless again. Lindy Ruff is well past his best before date.

Brunette was suuuuuuuch a good coach in Florida that they let him walk.
How's Nashville doing this year? Oh right, marginally better than the Devils. Care to explain that?
I don't think you are the coaching muse you think you are.

The Canucks are cruising 4-1 in the third period.

They sure did. It was visitor ice advantage as the away teams were 13-1-1 including the Flames game.

That is really easy to explain, look at the Predators roster compared to New Jerseys. If you think they are remotely close talent wise I would suggest you don't know as much about hockey as you think you do, the fact the Preds are actually better just further strengthens my case. The Devils are one of the most stacked teams in the NHL, the Preds should be a lottery team.

The Preds still have great goaltending, and a really strong defense. They aren't a lottery team, more like a middling bubble team. I would say they look exactly like we would expect them to, so far.
As for the Devils, they got off to a great start last year, and that probably made them look better than they were. Some regression this year is hardly shocking. Add in their injuries, and their struggles are pretty easy to understand.
I think the coaching is being given way too much credit and blame here

Yeah you cannot win a lottery with Saros in net.

As has been talked about with VAN this year, a fast start can make a team look better than they are.
Last year, the Devils started 21-4-1 for a .827 clip. Good on them - they won all those games.
But for the remaining 70% of the season (56 games) they were 31-18-7, .616. Pretty good, but not elite. SEA finished 12th in the NHL at .610. The Devils had a great year, but for 70% of it, they were the Kraken.
And interestingly, they have the same record as the Kraken again this year.

I just think they are hitting well above their weight offensively given that forward group. As for the Devils I still stand by the fact Ruff is a pretty crappy coach.

Sorry, but that is a terrible way of comparing and phrasing that. You can't compare one team's start to another's whole season and make sense of it.
The Kraken also had a hot start and went 15-5-3 (.717) to start the season. They went 31-23-5 (.568) they rest of the way over their last 59 games. The Devils were better than the Kraken at pretty much every step of the way, and not the same for 70%.

Impressive 5-3 win for the Islanders. They had to do it with only 4 defense men because Aho and Pelech were both injured early in the game. The Isles scored 2 goals in 6 seconds during the 2nd period.
The Kings beat the Ducks 5-2 and have now won all 9 away games to start the season. Kopitar and Kempe each with 2 points in the win.
The Predators whipped the Blues 8-3 even though the Preds were dominated in the faceoff circle. Both Blues goalies each let in 4 goals.
Hellebuyck with the 33 save SHUTOUT as the Jets won 3-0.
