Oesterle is 19th on the team in relative Corsi. Worse than Kadri. Meanwhile guys like Hunt and Gilbert are near the top of the roster in terms of possession. Hunt has completely exceeded my expectations.
You pay your pro scouts to find competent depth defencemen. Oesterle is not that right now.

Gilbert is the other #6/#7. Oesterle is going to find himself on waivers if he doesn't turn things around in a hurry.

You are expecting too much for a guy making almost league minimum. A whole lot of nothing on this list.

He was still in town 2 weeks back which hopefully means he hasn't given up on coming back

Oesterle was probably #8 in the team's plans because Kylington was supposed to be playing. The fact that he's playing at all was not part of the plan. They gave him a shot because of his mobility and offensive game, but he has not looked good. Now off to the next best option to see what works.

Oesterle makes $925K and Gilbert makes $762K. Oesterle is 19th in relative Corsi and Gilbert is 4th. Solovyov makes $828K. I know which two I'd rather have as a #6/#7 right now.

Happy to see this.
Team is struggling, defense is struggling, and this is the move you want your team to make.

Good thing the Flames have both. This is like getting mad about Michael Stone lol. Oesterle is meant to get replaced if he is playing regularly

Not picking on you at all ... but I don't think it's safe to assume anything at this point.

I guess it was more of a figure of speech on my part to say I don't expect him to be back. I'll be pleasantly surprised to be proven wrong if he does return, but I've already set my expectations up to not seeing him on the team anymore.

Both count zero against the cap if demoted to the Wranglers.
Zero cost depth.
Nothing to see here.

If he blew out a knee we'd have a schedule.
But given the nature of the issue we've been lead to believe it could be never, or tomorrow right?
We just don't know what he's said, what he plans. And whether or not he can meet whatever plan he set out.

Solovyov's timetable included a callup at some point. I wouldn't be surprised if he's a full-time Flame by the end of the season. A solid, reliable depth rearguard.

Easy to forget that Solovyov is not a raw rookie despite this being his first NHL game. He's been around pro hockey in the KHL and a couple of AHL seasons for some time, so I would expect this isn't going to be as big of a jump as it would be for a younger, less experienced player. Hopefully he's able to jump in and upgrade the bottom pair.

The only safe assumption at this point is that we can't safely assume anything.

Nice to see players who deserve to get called up get given a chance and put in the line-up right away

I've heard he "was here" but nothing beyond that. I would personally be shocked if he suddenly hits the ice between now and the end of the season, but who really knows with something like this. One thing is for sure, he is probably a long way off from NHL ready now having missed 2 training camps and being 18 months removed from the game.
How good would it be if Solovyov stepped in and was an answer on the bottom pair? Fingers crossed....this team needs something like that desperately.
