Shocking news, but if the Jets want to keep these malcontents on the team, all the better for us. Helubuyck is a top goalie, but I think Scheifele has serious flaws in his game, might be a bad locker room presence, and has a waning GAF meter. I think he embodies everything that their coach was ranting about to the media after bowing out of the playoffs last year.

I’m not in a rush to sign Lindholm. Let it play out. If it means we get less in trade value if it goes that way, so be it. The cap space savings are infinitely more valuable than his trade return or a hasty extension.
Cap flexibility should be our top priority. Let this breathe a little. I’m totally good with Conroy taking his time.

Can it be both? Have to overpay to retain talent.
Flames in the same boat with Lindholm.

I believe if you could magically remove an $8.5M skater from the Oilers or Leafs and replace with Hellebuyck, either would win the cup. Probably true of many of the non-wildcard playoff teams

Ha, okay.
What’s your homework telling you? What do his coaches and teammates have to say? Hockey executives around the league?
Are you suggesting no team is capable of winning simply because Mark Schifele is on it?

8x$8.8M is the Lindholm contract. Anything above that is above market value in my eyes.
(and I still wouldn’t want Lindholm at $8.8 for 8)

Scheifele was at or over a PPG for 6 straight seasons until slipping last year to 0.84 PPG. Lindholm’s vaunted defensive presence has to be worth a lot for Lindholm to be worth more money per year than Scheifele because the two of them are not really comparable offensively, at least to this point of their careers.

Hellebuyck is what we pretend we have in Markstrom. They've got him until he's 38 now...what will happen will happen, certainly not a risk-free contract - but when you have a legitimately elite player, you just go for it.
...doing so on non-elite players, that's where the real trouble sets in. I like the Hellebuyck contract more than the Scheifele deal.
All that said, I'd trade the Flames roster for the Jets roster. I imagine they'll get Connor, Ehlers, Iafallo, and Vilardi all done in the next 6-10 months as well. I also think drafting Barlow was a huge win for the Jets.

I can't argue with this. If Lindholm had Scheifele's offensive production, I probably wouldn't be as terrified of the Flames extending him...but he doesn't, and I think that's one of the reasons the Flames shouldn't extend him.

Keeping them unsigned until the 11th hour gets you the most out of your players. Amateurs.

I'd trade the Flames roster for the Jets roster in a heart beat. I imagine they'll get Connor, Ehlers, Iafallo, and Vilardi all done in the next 6-10 months as well.

Hellebuyck was great early in his career.
I would just call him "good" or "steady" these days.
But that's certainly more than you can say for Markstrom, so well done WPG.
Convincing any one to stay in Winnipeg for another 7-8 winters is a herculean task alone.

Dude has rocked a .920, .910, .916, .922 in his last 4 seasons. I don't think that shows any signs of falling off, and he posted that .910 behind a Jets team that was in shambles. To me? No brainer the Jets do what they have to in order to keep him - and we're not talking about a Brobovsky contract either. It's tidy work by the Jets.

Couldn't find the player card for him but his defensive impact seems to be a bit overblown.

Again, steady & good is how I'd describe him. And those results fall in line with that (though he did have a 3GAA and wasn't great the year before last).
He still seems to #### the bed when it matters most though. So I wouldn't call him "great".
But he's necessary to keep WPG competitive at all. So it had to get done.

Hellebuyck was third in Vezina voting this past season. He has been top 4 in Vezina voting in 3 of the past 4 seasons.
He's still one of the best goalies, I'd say top 5-8 or so. Just after Sorokin, Shesterkin, Vasilevsky, Saros, and Ullmark I'd say.
