I think Duher is going to be our breakout this year, he seems dialled in to me.

The Flames might not even have a #7 this year. Everything points to the Flames' keeping a 21 man roster to start.

Personally I thought Gilbert had good chemistry with Z last year, so I don't mind him as a #6 to start.

Mangiapane has been pretty quiet in the preseason and they may be trying to get him going. This is a pretty critical season for him.

I would say that Duehr is a lock to make the team.

I also think that Ruzicka wouldn't be out of place centering the 4th line this year, as this year it seems that it is likely to be more than just an energy line. Last year was an energy line/punishment and intimidation line. This year is more like to be an energy line/chip in offensively line, even with Pelletier out.

A bottom line of Duehr - Ruzicka - Pelletier/Zary/Hunt/ can probably start chipping in if chemistry develops, and if you put Klapka there, you probably lower the amount of points a little bit, but you make this into a very difficult line to play against as they will be very good on the forecheck, while still making plays.

Whatever way it ends up being, my point is that I wouldn't want another year of Ruzicka centering Lucic and Brett Ritchie. Ruzicka taking reps as a centre even on the 4th line would't be the end of the world as long as the line is put together in a way that allows for some offence. I don't think you can really make a line this year that won't generate more than last year, but the trade-off is that they won't be policing or intimidating anyone this year.

Yeah, I think if anything Duehr will move up the lineup. I don't know if it's just confidence or what but he seemed to transition perfectly to the NHL, almost better suited for it.

Please impress me..

Not excited about this group and haven't been given much reason to reconsider since the 10-0 thumping of that ECHL team.

Every area of the team looks somewhere between below average and competent. Don't see any part that looks like it will excel against NHL line ups. Maybe the PK..

It's preseason. You won't be able to tell how this team goes until after game 10 of the regular season.

Can a guy watch this one anywhere? I don’t see the Flames streaming it, or so they announce that closer to game time.

Yeah, but it would be nice to see some SIGNS that they'll be a better and more motivated group after game 10.

Seeing Kadri and Huberdeau look more composed and figured out in some of these exhibitions would help a lot. It's never too early to show that, if they really are motivated to crush it this year.

It's not easy to just flip a switch. Have to practice the habits you plan to implement when it matters.

And yet, the same thing happens EVERY preseason on EVERY team: veteran players look like they are just going through the motions (because they are) only to come blasting out of the gate on opening night like it suddenly matters (because it does).

Yeah the results don't matter at all right now but I would like to see a better effort than what they showed against the Oilers. This group has a lot to prove from last year and I'm not sure what switch they would flip, or if they even have one.
