I thought a JV for an arena with the We Ko Pa band would be a great idea.
Casino, hotel and 5 star golf already in place in North Scottsdale.

I'm not sure having 15000+ people ingress/egress in a short time frame a few times a week is actually a good thing for most businesses...it just makes it hard for your actual customers to access you.
Even residentially, people living near the Saddledome have to be strategic on game nights if they need to drive somewhere.

I always thought this was a problem with the West Village concept. An amateur sports complex that would be very difficult to access whenever the connected arena was in use.

If these guys are indeed "buffoons", and you may well be right LOL, I wouldn't hazard any guess as to what they may or may not actually do.
Unless, of course, you have some special insight into buffoonery? I strenuously deny any such knowledge.

Very true. I am a Calgarian in a Calgary Flames forum; not an Arizonan talking about the Coyotes on a Coyotes forum.
Funny right?

Funny but your comment was about Mesa somehow being comparable to Glendale as far as proximity to the bigger and more well off population centres. Note: The Glendale location was outskirts of Glendale. It's practically in Peoria.
Depending on where hte "NW Mesa" location is it could be twice as close to Sky Harbour airport and would be a lot nearer to Scottsdale.

The best part about Salt Lake City is that the team doesn't have to change the name...

Somewhat off topic, but has anyone been to Mullet arena? We are travelling to Vegas in October and the Knights are on the road at the time. I was thinking of hopping over to Phoenix to take in a Coyotes game. Is it better to buy tickets now or a day or 2 before?
The game I am looking at is versus Chicago so I am leaning towards before just because of the Bedard factor, but prices are around $300 a seat...if I buy now.
Was also thinking of taking in a Cardinals game and I am assuming those would be best purchased a day or 2 before.

I know. It was a joke. The joke was more related to teams moving closer to downtowns and entertainment districts more so than moving from Glendale. The fact that we inexplicably have a Coyotes fan creating threads on logan cooley signings, questioning my knowledge of the Valley of the Sun just makes it funnier to me, maybe
Mesa was listed as an ideal landing spot in a report a few years ago given that the majority of Coyotes ST holders were from Eastern Phoenix metropolitan areas (Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, and Scottsdale).
The spot is rumored to be the Fiesta Hills (?) mall location. so its NW Mesa, close to Tempe.

Phoenix Business Journal has confirmed it's the site at Loop 202 and Alma School road.
It's not Fiesta Mall, that site was dropped ages ago.

Is owning a hockey team just a big tax dodge because I can't see playing in a 5,000 seat arena while buying up property all over town in the hopes of building a new arena in 5 years being a great business model?

They aren't buying up property all over town if I'm reading it right. They've signed deals they can back out of.

Nah I think it's a fair comment, the goal posts always move.
"Glendale doesn't work the team needs to be downtown"
"Can't get a rink built downtown? It's okay, Tempe is better anyways"
"Tempe deal fell through, well there is still Scottsdale, that's where the fans are anyways!"
"If Scottsdale doesn't work then that's fine, the fans all live in Mesa"
Doesn't matter what the demographics are...building arenas that aren't downtown and aren't easily accessible with public transit is never a good strategy.
It's Embarassing they are allowing a professional franchise to play in a 4600 seat stadium, for more than a season or two. Especially since they don't actually have an arena agreement in place.
Honestly I think the best thing for hockey in Phoenix at this point would be to let the Coyotes leave. Too much baggage with that franchise and too many years of failed owners.
Move the team, build a new multi sport arena in partnership with the Suns, and then try again with expansion in 5-10 years once the sour taste is gone from the market (preferably with a better ownership group).
