I really think people will be surprised at how impactful Poirier is and will be. Game breaking offensive talent. As long as he's passable on defense he's going to be a very good player. He's also a lot closer to being NHL ready than Morin.
|
For the record, I was on the Morin train but your post in the Zary poll convinced me otherwise.

I take it that Poirier isn't atrocious on the defensive side of the game now?

That either means our prospect depth is poor or he's not that good.

This is a valid/interesting point. admittedly I was kinda lazy on the math so I may have missed some names , but by my count Morin was the 3rd or 4th D taken out of the CHL- often the 3-4 CHL d is taken as a late first rounder. so I don't know whether this year was a weak year for Dmen in the CHL, or moreso from what we are hearing it was just a deep draft in general- including for forwards. at any rate, whether Morin was a steal or not- I think having one of the top 4 CHL dmen in his class (and he wasn't viewed as a reach when picked) I think bodes well for him- of course that and 3 dollars will get you a Starbucks coffee so he has to take it from here

Poirier is the guy here. Great progression and was a top producer as a rookie in the AHL. Haven't seen a prospect do this for the Flames in a long time. Poirier's .594 PPG is way better than Andersson's .407 PPG in rookie seasons in the AHL. Really excited to see him step up and challenge for a position this fall. Morin is still years away.

Poirier because I like pronouncing it pwa-yay and using my high school French. Also because his offense is absolutely insane, and that kind of production seems like it guarantees some kind of NHL career. Is Gostisbehere a comparable?

I voted Poirier because of his progression in his 1st pro season but in no way do I think he has better offensive instincts than Morin who lead(tied) his Moncton junior team in scoring with 72 pts in 67 games and then had a team high 17pts in 12 games in the playoffs, more amazingly is he had 54 more points than the next defenseman had, Morin also is the full package, hits like a truck and has an elite defensive IQ at the junior level. I was told after the draft Etienne Morin IS the Moncton Wildcats and it's not even close.
I always will vote for a player playing against men but if Morin progresses he could be the steal of the draft.

Can you make sure to get to the daily vote early so we all know what we're supposed to do?
Please and thanks!

Undisputed that we will have these 2 dman in our top rankings. I think one of them has a very good chance to be a top 3 prospect in our pool.
