When the head of NHL central scouting says Etienne Morin is his favorite Dman in the draft.

I take notice. Very high ceiling. Hoping we get to see him quarterback PP in WJCs for Team Canada.

Zary has not dominated in AHL yet and Poirier is prone to big gaffes on Dside.

All three worthy of this tier of prospects but edge goes to Morin.

The next round is shaping up to be an interesting D v. D battle. I've had Poirier #6 on my list, but re-thinking.

I understand why folks are voting for him. But I am not that high on Zary.

Toss up between Poirier and Morin. Poirier has that fantastic upside, and he has had a good AHL season. Morin is the overall 'better package' - still offensive but in a much more traditional way than Poirier who can look and feel like a high-end winger coming from the back-end (which normally is a bad thing for defencemen, but Poirier is really good).

It is a coin-flip for me. I went with Morin, but by a hair only. Could have gone either way.

I felt Jeremie Poirier was a more effective AHLer than Connor Zary last year, so I went with Poirier.

My next three are Poirier, Morin, and Zary (in that order).

Feels like Zary is going to pick up plenty of votes on name alone, but he just wasn’t as good as Poirier last year and Morin has a higher potential imo. Watching Zary and it’s pretty easy to see how he could turn into a nothing-prospect if he doesn’t find another gear. He was never impressive and sometimes looked outright terrible (but I think Scorp said his game comes and goes, so I might have just always been unlucky enough to see him when it isn’t there).

I think our rankings are really going to open up and get more interesting after Poirier and Morin are gone.

Morin is more physical and better defensively than Poirier at similar ages.

Morin finished the year tied for first on his team in scoring and 1st in +/- feats that Poirier never achieved(was off by one point one year but that was D+1).

To be fair I haven't been Poirier's biggest fan due to his inconsistent effort and lackluster gap control but I am confident in saying that Morin is the better prospect. I watched Poirier a lot in Junior and can't judge his performance post junior career though. Poirier might have the better hands but overall I think Morin is a lot more polished and projects to be the better player offensively and defensively.
