Peter Mueller was a favorite of mine too. Had a heck of a lot of tools.

Not suspicious, just a GM helping out his old GM/mentor.

Yeah, Yzerman clearly bailing out Holland. I would love to know if there was actually anything to the future considerations, like a pick or prospect to be named later.

Only thing I can think of re Kostin, is that they are close to a contract and just removing his ability to file for arbitration.

They’re probably just negotiating a deal outside of the QO limitations.

…or Kostin went from beautiful Edmonton to dumpsterville Detroit.

Which is more likely?

But it’s not Yzerman’s money to spend. Why would the owner(s) be ok with that?

Katz probably wired them the money.

It doesn’t make sense. If Yzerman just wanted to do a favour on Yamamoto he takes him for the “future considerations” without Kostin, because Edmonton could just as easily have not qualified Kostin and gotten the same result.

They must have a deal in place, like Sureloss suggested. Otherwise Yzerman just cost his owner money for no return.

With the Flames qualifying Pettersen and Pospisil, could that just to retain their NA rights if they sign overseas?

There’s a few eyebrow-raisers on that list. A few that interest me, other than Max Comtois:

-I’ve liked Nathan Bastian since junior, and I think Lindy Ruff did too. They exposed him in the expansion draft, but traded for him to come back. He’s 6’4”, skates well for a big guy, and is a physical grinder. He can kill penalties, and play all forward positions.

-Klim Kostin (if he’s truly available) was really a fan-favourite in Edmonton. He’s a mean, energetic, and physical bottom-6 player who has a touch of offence, with 21 points in 57 games, along with 5 points in 12 playoff games.

-Mike McLeod is a big C who can really skate and play a good defensive game. Not much offense, but he could show more with more minutes.

-I always looked at Christian Fischer and figured he had a lot more to show. He’s 6’2”, and plays a sound checking game, with pk abililty. 27 points this year- would do him wonders to have better linemates IMO.

-Not sure what happened to Denis Gurianov’s game, but I would give him a chance on a show-me contract. Same goes for Jesper Boqvist.

-Jonah Gadjovich was once a player, but he’s a bit of an enforcer at this point, and might be good to replace some of Lucic’s toughness.

If Kostin ends up back in Edmonton then the league needs to start asking questions.

This is obvious. Detroit is clearing space to sign Matthew Phillips to a $2-3M contract.

No, I think Yzerman did the nice thing of being the bad guy that elected to bounce Kostin instead of having Holland bounce a fan favorite. Nothing else to see here.

And his owner had to pay $1M for the luxury? Doesn't make sense...

Both Holland and Yzerman just got a trunk full of Rubles delivered.
