Does it though? Would he have gotten more than $2.5M with less term?

I believe so. Leafs have a near term cap crunch, but still have to dress a roster.

Career high 27 points, and is 28. What do you think he deserves on a 2 year deal?

Quick (and lazy) rule of thumb is $1M for every 10 points. He is a $2.5M player at most.

Yeas sure seems like an unforced error. No discount on the AAV and locked in for 4 years.

I guess it might look like a bargain in 3 years when the cap is higher but what a strange player to make a bet on.

Two years later, to the surprise of absolutely nobody, Kampf has not worked out and Treliving may be looking to dump his cap hit.

https://x.com/theathletic/status/193...leO3v4re3iC1FA

"As far as I can gather, the Leafs’ biggest bet on July 1 is apparently going to be an attempt to sign Brad Marchand.

"If Marchand chooses the Leafs over returning to Florida, that doesn’t necessarily rule out Toronto making another significant addition. If the Leafs can trade Calle Järnkrok or David Kämpf in a salary dump deal — which should be possible with how little cash is remaining on their deals after July 1 and all the teams looking for talent right now — that could potentially leave them another $5 million or so to add another forward."

Exactly. Murray Edwards is still somehow forcing Treliving to make bad decisions.

don't sign bottom liners to long-term deals, friends. Seems like an easy enough concept, unless you're an NHL GM, apparently.

Why would he sign that and not wait till UFA. He could have gotten 8 years in Edmonton.

Kampf is fast, wins faceoffs, and is good defensively. The term is long, but the AAV seems fair.

At least Kampf does some things well. Rooney has no redeeming qualities.
