Just looking at his numbers didn't realize how bad of a player he is for that salary wooof.

Backlund is so much better it's not even close.

If that’s the offer for Backlund from Colorado then I’m glad they waited.

Yup. This is a swing by Colorado that Johansen can bounce back

I highly doubt that would be the offer from Colorado for Backlund.

I would assume most GMs treat the job seriously and not as a joke.

Backlund needs a destination too. There are only so many teams looking for a #2/3 C this summer.

The point isn’t that this particular deal would have been good for the Flames. It’s that the game has begun and the chairs are being removed. Each day the options will narrow. Conroy can’t wait until Lindholm is settled to start making moves.

Worst case they keep him till the deadline if the value isn't there this summer. I think he might actually get more at the deadline. Hanifin and Lindholm need to be figured out soon. Toffoli as well probably cause he actually asked for a trade.

I still think Backlund fits in Colorado and fills that need. He can take away tough assignments from Mackinnon.

Newhook Girard 1st for Backlund 50% retained and Zadorov.

If Makar wants to come home we can take out the 1st and just add him.

Preds cap friendly is pretty interesting as it relates to the Flames.

13 picks in this years draft, 9 next year, and 7 the following. Five first round picks and six second round picks in that window. They also have $6.5M in dead cap this year and next. Kyle Turris buyout at $2M until 2027-28.

Also, similar to the Flames, have some expensive roster players that will likely prevent them from really bottoming out; Josi, Forsberg, duschene, McDonagh, Sarros (who may be dealt).

An interesting comparison, for sure. The Flames could put themselves in a similar situation very soon if that’s the way they go.

Ry Jo at $4 mil for 2 years in a great deal for Colorado. He's nearly a PPG in his career in the playoffs and had 63 points 2 years ago. 1 bad year and he's completely written off. Unless the injuries are a huge concern, Colorado gave up nothing to add a quality player at a quality cap hit.

I think our defensive group and forward group is a lot better than Nashville even with the the players leaving and what we can get back.

If we get back some good value and arm the team with picks young roster players and cap space if Wolf is as advertised I can see us in the mix to make the playoffs.

It's really not as bad as everyone says it is.

Nashville too was terrible and almost made the playoffs because of Saros. I think we can make the playoffs with a better overall team.

I could also see is doing damage in the playoffs with a retooled roster over what we have today. Youth speed and happiness will make a world of difference.

...one bad year?

22/23: 28 pts in 55 games
21/22: 63 pts in 79 games
20/21: 22 pts in 48 games
19/20: 36 pts in 68 games
18/19: 64 pts in 80 games
17/18: 54 pts in 69 games

Like...the dude is a fine $4M player. At $8M though?

There's a reason Nashville gave him away and ate $4M. They're spending $4M to gain $4M in space. I don't disagree, this is a fine move for Colorado - but Johansen has a history of subpar seasons, particularly at what his cost was.

His last 20 goal season prior to last year was 14/15

At 4 million he's ok but he's slow and not very effective.

If I want to capitalize the window Colorado has I would have parted with assets to bring in Backlund and that's not a homer look either he's just a better overall player who can change the way you deploy your lines. Plus you can put a couple of young players on his wing and they will look great.

But Colorado got a $4 mil player which you said he’s fine at $4 mil. So is that not worth something? I get why Nashville dumped him but if he’s free to add why not retain a bit less or add a pick?

His 2 worst years seem to be injury years. His healthy years he’s worth $4 mil no question

He’s actually a pretty good example of the big contract to a young guy not working out. There will be more for sure

Yeah this is an absolute fleecing for Colorado. I could see the player being free for 8 million. But 50% retained for nothing? Crazy.

The whole point of retaining salary is to get something? Nashville does not have cap issues right now so some patience would have been smarter IMO

The fact Nashville retained for 2 years and got nothing back tells me they know he's cooked.

Colorado added 4 million in a cap hit for a broken 32 year old who has motivation issues and being in shape.

It's not a fleecing.

He's 30 turning 31 in July. He's 1 year removed for 63 point season. $8 mil he is worthless but at $4 mil he's worth something. This deal is great for the Avs and they should have had to give up something to get it done. Even a 4th is something.
