It would be stupid for Huska and Conroy to hire a guy as an assistant coach that fans are going to want as the head coach as soon as the team goes on a cold streak.
Glad he found a job somewhere else.

Definitely didn't want to see this guy go as I think he has a certain coaching it factor that many career minor league/assistants just don't have.

Friedman said that Cail Maclean and Dan Lambert are the top candidates to get assistant coach.
Dan Lambert is considered a PP guy. He coached the top PP in the WHL with Spokane. Has been an assistant coach with Nashvilee.
Marek said he heard Brent Kisio is getting consideration for the Wranglers job.

I like the idea of adding Lambert, and am less enthused about Cail Maclean.

Kisio has done really well as HC of the 'Canes and in various Hockey Canada roles. Most recently an assistant coach on the gold medal U20 team. Not at all surprised he is getting consideration.

Flames and Kiso have been there and done that already.

I like Love and would have liked to see him stay here. However, people move on, and that's normal. Also, the important decision is the head coaching job, there are planty of assistants out there. And when Love gets a HC position, chances are it will be somewhere other than WAS, and CGY is still just as much of a possibility as anywhere else.
I wish him the best - seems like a solid guy

Two possible scenarios:
1. He feels snubbed and was leaving regardless of anything else (not even wanting an Assistant job here).
2. Conny and/or Huska wanted him to stay in the A for at least another season.
Making it either a middle finger or a career move. I can understand the former and can -really- understand the latter.

Not shocked at all. I probably wouldn’t want to stay either and think I have a better opportunity elsewhere to move up.

Those are the two I have assumed for a while now would join the staff with their ties to Huska. Especially Lambert, I'm assuming he's a lock.

Not surprised. If I was Huska, there is no way that I would want a guy that half the city wanted to be the HC to be on my staff. If he really was given the decision on assistant's (and he should have that authority) then I don't think Huska would have wanted Love on his staff. Bringing on the heir apparent would be a sucker's move.

Jon Cooper had a lot more coaching experience overall and a longer record to judge him on. If you look at the list of AHL coaches of the year winners, it is hit and miss at best.

Now he needs to implement a system to support Ovi to break the record.

They already have the "pass it to Ovi at the top of the circle" system that seems to be working well enough.

If Love "circled back" to the Flames after getting the Washington offer, it was probably money.
Enjoy Maryland, Mitch.

Hockey jobs aren’t much different from other jobs. When someone takes one offer over another, it’s probably because they’re going to get paid more.

Strange he would take an external promotion when he likely had the same opportunity in Calgary. Probably a combination of more money and a more preferable situation.
He was not going to be HC in Calgary with his limited resume, and he didn't want to be here. Not feeling like the Flames really lost anything right now if that's the case.
Good luck and best wishes to him wherever he lands.
|
I figured it was intentional. Like snuffing a flame
The other thing people don't realize is that teams actually do pay their coaches differently. Maybe Washington simply out bid.
Or maybe the role was different. Maybe the tasks he was going to be assigned here were less attractive.
