Maybe we’ve just gotten used to a premier who never looks like she has anywhere to be and doesn’t look like she belongs wherever she ends up.

Smith spoke better, and delivered better. Notley struggled which is disappointing. The ease of which Smith would lie is frightening. What a psychopath.

Notley got absolutely owned on the electricity file. If that moves the needle or not, May 29th will tell.

I didn't understand why a 40% increase to home electricity costs by 2035 was supposed to be scary. We had 300% increases in the last year alone.

100% Debates are about shoring up your base.
I just don't see an undecided voting hearing that their Premier broke the law but thank god she pwned the CBC.

Didn't get to watch it. Sounds like a dud of a performance. This was Smith's chance to seem like a normal human being and kept being a chud. Notley should have pounced but didn't pounce enough even with plenty of ammo to draw from.
Sounds like it went about as I expected. Yawn.

As someone without skin in the game and not engaged in Alberta politics, just based on demeanor and presence, I thought Smith looked better. Mileage might vary, but maybe typical non-engaged voters in Alberta thought the same. I am not saying I would vote for her based on this though.
I didn't think Notley was terrible though. I generally get irritated when politicians speak regardless. If I vote, it is almost entirely on the printed platform. These types of things are usually just preaching to the choir anyway. If you already prefer one side, it's unlikely to change anything.

I didn't catch that section so maybe there is more context (like accounting for inflation?), but the last 12 years inflation = 30.55%

Honestly I stopped watching these when I learned that what happened during the debate actually doesn’t matter as much as what the pundits say happened. I played board games with my kids instead.

Which was caused by NDP policies.

The moderators really controlled the flow. They didn't give them an opportunity to turn anything into an argument. It was pretty much one side stating their side, then a rebuttal.

That was addressed in the debate. Inflation plus the removal of the cap by ucp.

You didn't watch, but offer comments about the debate?
Do you comment on hockey games after reading the box score?!
Did you stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night?!

Notley speed wobbled off the hop, but as the debate went on, she had the upper hand. Great jabs, reasonable on policy and affably intelligent. She didn't harp but got off great shots. Smith came off as slippery and couldn't rebut when Notley called her out on misinformation. She became irritated and smug as the debate went on. Her priorities felt dated and repetitive. Obviously the Yoho's of the world will eat it up but this debate was for the undecided and it was a solid win for Notley.

The immediate rebuttal to the electricity file was the removal of the cap on utilities that allowed for the huge rise in monthly cost to the consumer. Protections were put in place by ndp and removed by Kenney in his first year. I'm just not sure how notley got owned there.
