Stop already. The NDP cut $15mm from the budget right before the Ft Mac fires in 2016. Both parties are guilty.

Edson now on evacuation order and my mom's husband won't leave. Says he's got the hose ready. He's 81. It's so frustrating to get them to understand they need to leave

All the best to you. Haven't seen Sample00 around here for some time. He used to live in Edson.

We’re in central Alberta and I’ve had 22 alerts, including one at 2 am today. It’s getting tiresome.

If a massive military and Canada wide response has not been called already, than I don't know why we have emergency management people in charge. It seems we are ALWAYS late to getting the needed help we need in the time of crisis. Unless I am missing something, are we not looking at several Alberta communities being at risk of completely burning down?

So my Mom still hasn't left. I don't know what else to do. Emergency services understandably says they don't have resources to help people who choose not to leave. This was the map from this morning. The dot is Edson, the line is where the tip of the fire was when I went to bed. Ugh

My inlaws are in Peers. They won't leave either. They keep saying, "what about the cows?"
The cows will likely burn up if the fire gets there. You can burn with them or leave.

I grew up in Peers and probably know your in-laws. Peers looks a fair bit safer than Edson

Trying to get real-time updates on Twitter is an absolute nightmare. Hashtags and trends are just filled with conspiracy theory nonsense and political partisanship digs.
I truly despise this timeline.

Update: Mom is leaving. Wind has really picked up and the Fire Marshall came and scared them appropriately. Currently wind is blowing west which is essentially parallel to Edson, but it's only 10-15km South now so if it goes north they have maybe an hour or two and it'll be too late

The Edson fire is 800 sq km now. and over 70km long at the longest part.
Luckily the winds changed more due west then the north west they were moving the prior 48hrs which helped a lot. And we are supposed to see a decent amount of rain tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed.
