I say interview the 10 people you believe are the smartest available, get their thoughts on the situation, and then hire Conroy unless someone else wows you. Conroy has been groomed for over a decade.

I went with Scotty Nichol, solely because I grew up and played both hockey and baseball with him.

That being said, I am a huge Conny fan, and think he would be great.
Also, in conversations with him, I am comfortable in his ability to "handle" Darryl.

The first quality I'd be looking for in a GM would not be their capability to handle a coach who may only be here for a couple months.
