Watching other goalies I believe they play just as deep in their net. That’s not the issue. This year Markstrom is not tracking the puck as well as last year and his glove is a tad slow. Vladar has hot and cold streaks and loses his short side from time to time.

Marky sometimes overplays the angles and is caught out of position.

True. So does every goalie. Shesterkin does. Even Vasilevsky. They are taught to play the odds, so sometimes they look really bad when pucks bounce the wrong way, as well. It’s not a matter of overplaying in those cases, just the play not developing right. He does it a bit more this year. Vladar was worse at it last year though.

It’s funny though - people are complaining about him being too deep and also overplaying angles. That doesn’t typically happen and I don’t really see it.

You might not see it, but that doesn't make it not true.

He is playing very deep in his crease this year. And yes, he is deeper than many goalies - most attack the shooter and move a couple ft out of the crease to challenge the shooter, when it is clearly a shot. He is not doing that as much this year. And yes, on side to side plays, he is over-playing them at times, taking himself out of the paly.

The differences are small, but those differences are what causes .895 vs .910
